More About the Author

CINDY MCCOURT has been a freelance website planner and builder, instructional designer and instructor, project manager, and facilitator and has taken part in the planning and building of numerous Drupal and non-Drupal websites and web-based systems over the past 14 years. In 2005, she built her first Drupal website using Drupal 4.6 and has been hooked ever since.

Over the past 20 years, Cindy has been designing, developing, and delivering work shops and courses on technology and non-technology based subjects for both corporate and higher education organizations. She has also written technical papers on many topics for government and private sector clients. Cindy maintains a close relationship with the Drupal community through her blog at http://idcminnovations.com, by speaking at Drupal events, and offering Drupal training. She has been described by some in the Drupal community as a professional cat herder (http://rocktreesky.com/professional-cat-herder-win).

Cindy started acquiring many of her skills in 1985 when she went to work for TRW. Her 12 years at this world wide contractor provided her significant insights into project management and the many tasks associated with the lifecycle of a project. She was also an early TQM facilitator and trainer and has made process analyses, design, and improvement a tool in her web development tool box.

Cindy built her first website for George Mason University's Graduate School of Education in 1997 and maintained the site until she graduated in 2000 with a Masters in Education. She went to work for GMU in 1999 and continued to build her web development skills by developing several more department websites and by designing and coordinating the development of the online Workshop and Events Management System (WEMS) still used today by GMUs Division of Instructional Technology. She has also taught Instructional Design, Project Management, and Web Design for GMU's Graduate School of Education and provided technology workshops to GMUs faculty and staff.

Cindy's extensive project list can be found at http://idcminnovations.com/projects/listall-projects.

4.0 out of 5 stars great book! 5 Nov. 2011

Format:Paperback
The book is very well written and is one of those "technical" books that you can read without getting tired or bored. Not just for professionals, but for anyone who would like to make his site more attractive. Also interesting for non-drupal sites.
It is worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Place to Start Learning Drupal 15 Jan. 2013
By Ronald W Norman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have been looking at Drupal for the past few years and I have had one major problem learning Drupal and that is every book that I have read told you to download Drupal and start using it basically. This is the wrong approach and Cindy McCourt doesn't start out learning Drupal by downloading Drupal and start using it. This is very good start.

Once you start using Drupal by downloading Drupal and start adding things like modules, then you lose all concept of how Drupal works. What happens is that modules end up all over Drupal such as in the Structure, Configuration, or not show up at all and all of this will totally confuse you if you are new to Drupal.

Drupal: The Guide to Planning and Building Websites deals with designing your website to work with Drupal and not the fundamental of Drupal and this is where you should start when learning Drupal. This will save you many hours of frustration and disappointed.

I cannot express to you enough if you are starting out learning Drupal this is the very first place to start. The second part of learning Drupal is to download Drupal and just study Drupal "Out Of The Box" before you start adding anything at all to Drupal. This too will save you hours of frustration.

Mike Annelo from Drupal Easy has a Podcast 93 with Cindy McCourt about this book which is very good. I am the guy that Mike says forgot the name of the book which is true. I had not finished the book the book when I told Mike about the book. Just in case you don't know Mike Annelo, he is pretty popular in the Drupal arena in Florida.

Enjoy learning Drupal
