The earlier two editions of this book were the definitive books for the versions of Drupal they covered.

The current book is larger as Drupal has grown in complexity, and tries to cover the large area of both site building for those who want to avoid writing code, while also writing a lot about how to code for Drupal.

It does a fairly good job of this - but inevitably can't get everything in and sometimes the code sections are just too short for my taste.

Drupal 7 had a bumpy road to release with API changes made long after they were expected to be closed, and as this book was written before Drupal 7 was released there are inevitably some areas where the book doesn't match the actual product. I've found errors in the book - and the errata website for it is pretty large.

The book is still highly useful as a reference and explains well what happens in Drupal and how to do things - just don't rely too much on the code examples.

    Nice book. 24 Feb 2011
    Format:Paperback
It is a great book. A lot of details, but still missing af few real advanced examples.
    Besides that, it's a great look-up book.

    Amazing book. 9 Aug 2011
    Format:Paperback
This book is very helpful if you want to learn Drupal 7. The truth it that it has an identical structure as the second edition of the book, but the code and the examples are updated for Drupal 7.
