Missing the band Ride? here is the antidote - Drunk On Light is like the sound of melancholy floppy-fringed indie boys circa 1991 - gentle, but with a 21st century twist. I'm surprised this LP hasn't had more success because it's just as good as the shoegaze output in the early 1990s which was beautiful and popular - until the music press decided to kill the scene off. If you are sick of two-dimensional third rate quirky 'indie' bands and fancy something more sensitive then look no further. an undiscovered gem.

You don't have to listen to the Beach Boys to get strong melodies andlucid harmonies. Add in some zipping electronic beats and this recordgives you the perfect soundtrack to a lovely wet British summers day. Getindoors. Get that stereo on. Go trainspotting another day.

An intriguing, intricate, and hypnotic wall of sound is the back drop to lyrics that play with you mind and tug at your heart…….thoroughly pleasing and compelling, warm, cold, moving and naïve (in a totally un-naïve kind of way)

The lesser of 2 weevils 29 Aug. 2004

If anyone remembers, back in the early 90's there were quite a few bands who mixed electronic music with indie. My Bloody Valentine were one of the torchbearers of this movement. Others were Modest Mouse and Bark Psychosis (who have a new album out). Nowadays there have been some comebacks in the form of The Postal Service, The Real Tuesday Weld and Secret Machines. Now joining the club is London based duo Weevil (not to be mixed up with the punk band Bollweevil).

Weevil's music is simply uplifting and glorious stuff. Despite the fact that it is guitar-based rock clothed in electronica, it has a heart nestled in it's core. To listen to these guys does emit a certain amount of happiness and warmth.

The trick is that no song is complex yet there is imagination at work here. During the course of the album, voices are distorted, bleeps and blips (no bloops though) are scattered in the mix but also there are accordions and kettle drums.

Like I mentioned before the melodies here are wonderful, I'm sure if Lou Reed was listening to this he'd crack a smile as well especially at first single `Halfsmile', `Splinters' and `Bytecry'!.

If `Drunk on Light' is just the beginning stages of Weevil, then the future is definitely going to look bright for these guys.
Truly underrated music... 22 Mar. 2014

I absolutely am IN LOVE with Weevil. Have been for about 6 years. They've always been my mood music. Sad that not many others know who they are.
