Product Description

As a musician, I absolutely hate books of musical transcriptions that are factually incorrect. I own several song books which are, to my mind, next to useless, due to inaccuracies and general vagueness in relation to the music they purport to represent (partic. chordally speaking). As a drummer and drum teacher, frequently transcribing music for both playing and teaching purposes, finding accurately transcribed charts by a drummer of such fundamental importance to modern drumming as Bonham, is both wonderful and very helpful. I'd already spent many hours painstakingly transcribing 'Black Dog' and 'Good Times, Bad Times', and was embarked on several further Bonham transcriptions, when I discovered this book. It has saved me loads of time and energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant drummer, brilliant book. 2 Aug 2010

Here's a list of the contents, arranged - as they are in the book - chronologically, by album:

I:
Good Times Bad Times
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Dazed and Confused
Communication Breakdown

II:
Whole Lotta Love
What Is And What Should Never Be
Heartbreaker
Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)

III:
Immigrant Song

IV/Symbols:
Black Dog
Stairway To Heaven
Misty Mountain Hop

Houses Of The Holy:
The Song Remains the Same
Over the Hills and Far Away
The Crunge
D'yer Maker
No Quarter
The Ocean

Physical Graffiti:
Custard Pie
The Wanton Song

Presence:
Achilles Last Stand
Nobody's Fault But Mine

In Through The Out Door:
Fool In The Rain

Bonham fans might note the absence of a couple of classics, Rock 'n' Roll and Moby Dick chief amongst them. But hey, you can't have everything!

5.0 out of 5 stars Painstaking transcription, commentary a plus 28 Aug 2008
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Compared to other sheet music books, this one had a nice plus - the commentary by the author in front of each Zeppelin album, giving some insight as to what Bonham did, how you might think of styling the piece, etc... Not alot of words, one paragraph per song, but I found it useful.

The transcriptions show alot more notes than I remember hearing, so I went back and listened to alot of the songs and I conclude that the author really took care in being careful to get as close to possible as to what was recorded. This is the second edition, it seems, revised in 2005.

Fwiw, I am not a pro drummer by any means.

5.0 out of 5 stars For experienced drummers only! 5 Oct 2008
By DUDE - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a high quality and well written book. I have a feeling the author went above and beyond to make this book as accurate as possible. One thing I will say though is that if aren't a really good drummer you may get lost in spot's. John Bonham was one of the greatest after all and his style is not easily duplicated. Meaning you should have a few years of experience in drumming before purchasing! Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of 'Drum Techniques of Led Zepplin' 22 Nov 2010
By nzbreser - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
At first glance the title is a bit confusing as this is purely a book about the work of John Bonham; regardless I was anxious to receive it. After a few early glances the only disappointment was the exclusion of 'rock n roll' yet after an initial read there was no doubt that this is a valuable resource for any drummer.
Right from the introduction the author Joe Bergamini informs and educates the reader about the man. The style of the book provides an authenticity and respect which is articulate and authoritative and sets the book up as something special. Every track has a paragraph about things to note, which adds further insight if you want to really absorb Bonzo's playing.
The transcriptions are at an advanced level which require a decent reading ability but for the diligent drummer invaluable knowledge. There are no glossy colour pics here just good honest study material, a must have instructional book that I'm fortunate to now own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monumental 22 Oct 2012
By D. Neckels - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The transcriptions are excellent and the number of tracks is inspiring. This book gave me a wonderful insight into the mind of bonham and was tremendous at demonstrating some of those intricate licks.
Reading the licks and playing them slow is maybe an intermediate task... but, of course, playing them to speed and with the right feel is a life's work.
