In my opinion this book does not help you think like a drummer, nor is it a complete guide to drum programming. It is all hype!! I am not a drummer and I could have written it. I wanted to understand more about the relationship between the elements eg Kick, Snare, Hats etc and how this relates to rhythmn and feel, how to create exciting drums, how to drum in the style of particular genres.... etc etc. Instead there was a lot of very standard and obvious information and suggestions to listen to music to hear what good drummers do.....well I thought that was what this book was about.

My advice to a "would be" drum programmer - if you want to get better at it - buy a kit and start playing! I did, and learnt more in 1 hour of hitting the things than I ever would reading this book.
