Book Description

"Jason's story will be an inspiration to all those that have plumbed the depths of despair that we know as mental illness. With great personal honesty and pulling no punches, he describes his struggle to get back to a balanced life. He now works to help other people do the same." - Prof. Malcolm Peet, Consultant Psychologist

"Jason's autobiography touches the heart of anyone experiencing negative periods in their life - the emotional rollercoaster and triumph from reaching out from the dark side and learning to laugh at adversity." - Julie E Sloane, Care Coordinator, Rotherham Early Intervention in Psychosis Team

This book ‘Sex, Drugs and Northern Soul’ is a testimony to Jason Tune and his determination to overcome the demons that threaten, on many occasions, to overwhelm him. This is a strong and positive book which should inspire all the read it to grab life by the horns!

About the Author

Jason Tune
Jason Tune was born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, in 1964. At 14 years of age he became a ‘social outcast’ finding himself part of the Rotherham drug scene. Whether this had any bearing on his mental well-being is open to debate but one would imagine, at the very least, it is partly responsible. But once he recognised his problems, it is to his own credit and his strength of character that he fought the demons that were about to destroy his life. Jason is now inspirational in his work helping other service users in Yorkshire in his day job.

Raymond Brown
I first met Jason through an ex-student of mine whilst bench pressing more weight than was good for my age. Out of the friendship that was formed came the idea to write the story of Jason's journey through life.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT READING. 16 July 2009
Having just finished reading this book (sex, drugs n northern soul) in record time, (3 days), its an ABSOLUTE FANTASTIC read, I could not put it down. I recommend everyone reads this book, especially those people that lived in "lower kimberworth in rotherham", they'l be as engrossed as i was, the names n places mentioned in the book, all ring a bell, n brought back memories of the "good old days". This book made me laugh, n made me cry, but proves people who live, or lived (as Jason did), in the fast lane, CAN turn their life around for the better, if they are determined to do so. Jason n his family should be extremely proud of the fact that this is exactly what Jason has done, N i wish him all the very best of luck in future & with his next book, n i'll be first in line for a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspiring! 6 May 2009
Everyone who grew up during the 80's should read this. This is Jason's story. I was at Kimberworth Comp around about the same time as J and all I remember of him is that he was a "lairy troublemaker" it was advisable to stay away from J! After reading this book, which is a great reminder of the school days of long ago by the way, it gave me something else to think about. Never judge a book by its cover - literally. What nobody realised at the time is that J was suffering from serious mental health problems which were not diagnosed until much later and were worsened by his spiral into uncontrollable drug addiction. You may be thinking "I dont think I'll bother with that one then" but this book made me laugh a lot (as well as cry).
I laughed at the memories of Kimberworth Comp and the teachers and local hang-outs, and I cried at the hopelessness which threatened to overwhelm J and turn him into just another smelly loser in All Saints Square.
And I also cried with pride at the amazing courage and strength shown by this man who pulled himself up by his bootstraps as they say and is now helping others with drug and mental health problems. He has never lost his sense of humour throughout all the bad and trying times, and I am proud to say I went to the same school as Jason Tune!

Excellent portrayal of a real jack the lad back in the day, and a source of inspiration for all those who feel like giving up.

Brilliant read, couldn't put it down once I'd started reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book! 27 Jan. 2009
A great description of what drugs can do to you! I found this book to be full of mass highs and lows. Immense story of overcoming your problems, it should be used as an example to anyone who thinks they cannt overcome their problems. So good I couldn't put it down.
