Book Description

Love, life and lust in the fast lane...

Laura McNaughton's life is almost perfect. She's young, pretty and she has a fabulous job on a glossy magazine, which involves interviewing celebrities (and air-brushing their personalities). But when she is offered a job presenting a trendy Friday night television show she can't resist the opportunity to experience fame firsthand.

Putting her puritanical Scottish upbringing, her intellectual boyfriend and her hippy best friend behind her, she soon hooks up with world-famous actress Lucy Lloyd and gorgeous, infamous rock god Ricky Jones, who introduce her to a hedonistic world of partying where appearance is everything and nothing really matters but sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. But as the stories about her private life become front page news, Laura begins to doubt those closest to her, and her life starts to spiral dangerously out of control.

Packed with passion, glamour and danger, DROP DEAD GORGEOUS is a unmissable glimpse into the fame game - and the price you have to pay to play it.

This book is amazing! Laura McNaughton is a journalist for a glossy magazine, she dreams of fame and has a lusting for Ricky Jones - infamous rock god. Soon her dreams come true - she has Ricky an her dream job - she is experiencing celebrity life first - hand. First Laura thinks life is perfect, she soon realises that it isn't as great as it seems - especially when her private life and issues are splashed all over the papers. This book gives a very insightful view of celebrities and makes you realise that maybe their lives aren't as great as they seem. Must read for all chick Lit book lovers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drop Everything Read 9 Sept. 2003
Format:Paperback
After reading reviews in various magazines and weekend papers I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book so that I could rush out and buy it...It was well worth the wait indeed. It was a dream to read but a nightmare to put down! If you love all things celebrity buy this book and follow 'the ordinary girl', Laura into the darkside of stardom. I promise you will gobble this book up in one sitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! 13 May 2012
By Jordan
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is absolutely brilliant, I couldn't put it down. After reading wives vs girlfriends I was dying to read saints vs sinners (by Katie Agnew), te be honest I couldn't get into saints vs sinners but loved wives vs girlfriends so, I seen that Katie had a new book out and after reading all the fantastic reviews for Drop dead gorgeous I just had to have it. Im fascinated with the celebrity world and am a religious buyer of Ok! Magazine every week and was really put off after reading this book, the celebrity world isn't all fancy clobber and life of Riley if you get sucked in the wrong way. This is a realistic novel and shows you how one day Laura Mcnaughton is a adverage middle class working journalist to before she knows it shes a famous celebrity (which she always wanted to be) but involved in "sex drugs and rock n roll" and just not happy. It almost looks like she never escapes from this life and she totally sucked in, but I won't say anymore il let you read it and find out. Highly reccomended!

5.0 out of 5 stars An EXCELLENT read 30 July 2008
Format:Paperback
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was disappointed when I'd finished it even though it had a brilliant ending.

Basically it follows a young journalist called Laura into the world of fame, sex, drugs and hedonism.

The book is very well written and very enjoyable to read. A lot of books have pages and pages of descriptions of scenery and of how many freckles the main character has on their nose but not this one, it's straight to the point which allowed my own mind to set the scene, how I see it.

When it comes to books, soaps and movies, I get emotionally involved! So by the end of this book I was an emotional wreck!!! I must have cried through the last 100 pages (even at the happier bits)! Tragic I know :o)

This novel was the first for Katie Agnew back in 2003 so I'm hoping that now it's 5 years later that there are more novels by this author for me to enjoy!!!

Definitely recommend this book.

Hope u find this review helpful!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect holiday reading 29 July 2010
Format:Paperback
If you like chick lit then this is up there with the best of them. Devoured in 2 sittings, this is a debut novel by an author who worked in the magazine business so probably knows what she is talking about.
The story tells us lots of background information about the celebrity world that we don't see and how it can have such a negative impact on certain people and perhaps isn't as glamorous as it's sometimes made out to be.
There are some vile characters (very stereotypical and exxagerated maybe but there are surely real similarities we can all identify with),some characters you really want to just slap, (including the main one it has to be said) but as long as it isn't taken too seriously, will be enjoyed by anyone who is a fan of all things celeb. (I'm not usually but I do like this author).

A great insight into the celeb world showing the ups and downs of a rock and roll lifestyle. Katie's portrayal of stardom makes you see that money and fame doesnt always equal happiness. Well Done Katie a great debut, cant wait for the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer Brilliance 23 Sept. 2003
Format:Paperback
I quite simply could not put this book down! I was drawn into an alien world of magazine and TV glamour with all the celebrity status that brings and warmed to the characters immediately.
So well written, I could visualise every situation and all the characters in my mind so clearly. I felt such an empathy with them all even though I am so removed from the glamour, celebrity and showbiz lives they lead.
Well done to Katie Agnew - cannot wait to snap up your next book!!
