Reviews

All twelve episodes from the fourth series of the British television satire, based in the offices of the Globelink television news network, as oleaginous editor Gus Hedges (Robert Duncan) attempts to impose order on an alternately drunken, disorderly, or excessively committed workforce of journalists and self-obsessed bulletin presenters. In this series, Gus becomes depressed at the thought of death after going to a colleagues funeral, while Damien (Stephen Tompkinson) gets a death threat from a drugs baron he featured in one of his reports. Episodes are: 'The Undiscovered Country'; 'Quality Time'; 'The Day of the Mum'; 'Births and Deaths'; 'Helen's Parents'; 'Sally in TV Times'; 'Crime Time'; 'No More Mr Nice Guy'; 'Henry's Autobiography'; 'The Strike'; 'The Wedding'; and 'Damien and the Weather Girl'.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful By Stepen Mark Tams on 6 Dec. 2006
Format: DVD
this series is one of the best political satires that has ever been transmitted. It gives an unbiased opinion of the sleaze and scandal of the last conservative government and makes it funny.

as this was usually filmed on the day of transmisson the up to date 'news' items gave this an edge over other shows. on hearing that they were to be re-issued on dvd the only trepidation was that it would appear dated, after watching the first 3 series this dvd was eagerly waited for, if not for the humour then to remind you that political people

take themselves too seriously and comedians are there to remind them that they are human and are often stupid.

A Forgotten Gem 20 April 2011
By Le Vieux - Published on Amazon.com
It's been many, many years since I saw a handful of episodes on U. S. TV, but I've always remembered this series with great fondness. I've searched for videos for a long time, and I'm glad they've finally released all six series on DVD in England. Now, if they'd just release them in the U. S. Until then, those of us with region-free DVD players can at least enjoy these long-missing gems.

The action takes place at Globelink Television News, beginning with a takeover by a notorious media mogul. The new head honcho is unintelligible, the office manager is ineffective on a good day, and the entire team bickers, fights, teases, gambles and mocks their way through the day. The office manager's deputy Alex, the lone sane voice, does her best to limit the damage. One of the highlights of the series is Stephen Tompkinson who is brilliant as Damien, the star reporter who would sell his grandmother for a story.

The Series 4 DVD contains all 12 episodes from the fourth season.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE REGION 2 PAL DISKS WHICH REQUIRE A REGION 2 OR REGION-FREE DVD PLAYER CAPABLE OF CONVERTING PAL SIGNAL TO NTSC.
