Must have for anyone learning to drive, 28 April 2004
This review is from: Driving Test Success DELUXE 2003/2004 Edition (4 CD SET) (CD-ROM)
This was a fantastic package.
It really helped me practise for the real thing, the theory test CD waswhat I used most of all but the hazard perception disk is identical to thereal one and I took my theory and hazard test last week and got 34 out of35.
Do I need to say anymore..... Fantastic CD's.
Also very easy to use and much more helpful than just reading thebooks.
Its interesting to let drivers who have been driving forever have a gotoo, it just shows you how many bad habits they really have. : o )

Practice makes perfect, 20 Feb 2004
This review is from: Driving Test Success DELUXE 2003/2004 Edition (4 CD SET) (CD-ROM)
This useful set of CD-ROMs serves more than one purpose. Not only does it comprehensively cover everything you need to know about your driving and theory tests, it also serves to clarify your knowledge about safe road usage and hazard perception, giving you more confidence when you actually get behind the wheel.
OK, so the driving theory test is not exactly like sitting your finals, but there are a few stinkers in there these days, and unless you have practiced with a book or with a CD like this, you could be looking at a humilating (and expensive!) failure that you could well do with out! Using this CD, I got full marks first time. I found the video questions particularly helpful to practice, and know that many people found them tricky in the actual test. The questions are all categorised just like in the books, so you can concentrate on trouble spots. You can sit practice tests which are timed, presented and scored in exactly the same way as the real test, so after a few practices, you can guarantee that you don't mess up by doing anything silly.
Lessons and advice on what you can expect in the practical test are valuable, although strictly speaking not entirely necessary, since there is no substitute for the real experience of driving with a qualified instructor. The hazard perception disc covers the sort of questions you can expect to find in the theory test, but more than that, it serves as a useful aid in making one more aware of the types of risks faced by the modern driver for every conceivable reason.
On top of this, a useful addition in the shape of the Route Finder CD is also included. It is something that is often overlooked by learning drivers (myself included), that when you learn to drive, you are forever being told exactly where to go. It sounds almost ridiculous, but in my experience, at first you don't realise how important planning your route before you get into the car is. The time you take to read signs on unfamiliar roads, especially in hazardous conditions, can make all the difference between a safe, easy journey, and an accident.
Altogether, this package is a tad on the overkill side, but you will certainly increase your chances of passing if you have it. It's also a valuable reference to have after you pass, since getting your drivers license is only the beginning of your driving life.

I'm an instructor. Good theory stuff, useless driving stuff, 25 July 2004
This review is from: Driving Test Success DELUXE 2003/2004 Edition (4 CD SET) (CD-ROM)
The hazard perception CD is excellent, as is the theory section. But the practical test CD is pants. It bears no relation whatsoever to actual driving - the instructions it gives you to do are quite simply wrong, it often fails to recognise that you have operated the controls leaving the user to repeat a section that they have done correctly.
As for the route finder software, don't bother. It's handy for a quick calculation of basic route and the estimated time and mileage is a guide. But do not try to follow the directions given. They are confusing, misleading, and often innacurate for someone who does not already know the area - rather a waste of money then as you expect to use this when you don't know the area.
