Let me get my main niggle out of the way first. This is one of those pieces of software that loudly proclaims all the wonderful things it can do for your computer. And it's the 'professional' version, so it must be outstanding, right?
Well, not really. Check the company's web page, and you'll find that the 'professional' version is actually the most BASIC version of this product. (in fact, you don't need t visit the web page - you'll be taken there automatically when you install the software, and shown a comparison list, pointing out the TINY number of things your 'professional' software will do, and urging you to upgrade to the more expensive 'Platinum' version.)
Anyway... if you're even reading this review, you probably know already what this software will do for you. It checks your drivers (bits of software that run your graphics card, sound, and all the various bits of your hardware), then hunts to see if any more recent versions are available. If they are, it downloads them.
On my system it found 9 updates, but when I tried to install them (which you have to do individually) it informed me that 3 of the existing drivers on my PC were newer than the 'updates' I was trying to install... Hmm... Professional? Certainly not confidence-inspiring.
While keeping your drivers up to date is not a bad idea, it's perhaps worth pointing out that the vast majority of PC users NEVER update a single driver for the entire life-span of their PC, and are none the worse for it.
Also, if you ARE driver-saavy, you probably already have your own methods of getting and installing the latest versions, but you might find it convenient to use this 'do them all at once' approach.
However the software does offer a few other useful functions, such as being able to back-up all your existing drivers.
The bottom line: In all honesty, I can't recommend this. There's no excuse for software that downloads 'new' drivers that are older than those already on your machine.
And if you DO want this software, you might like to visit the company's website and look at the 'platinum' version before handing over your money for this one.

Drivers have always been one of the most problematic issues in PCs. In the case of this product, it gave me a few good ones, while handing me drivers that caused my laptop to malfunction. For example, after installing a network adapter patch, my internet suddenly ceased to connect. System Restore became my life-saving tool, after various annoying niggles such as a slower start-up, or applications that minimized to the RIGHT of the taskbar in a condensed form. While on one hand it did give me the correct Intel display drivers, it made me realize that I could have messed up with laptop completely with this product.
Oh... I also very much disliked the fact that I had to register and give away my address and name and country before the bloody thing would install. While other users have reported that Driver genius 9 was fine with them, look around on the internet, and you would find that most of the user ratings for this product is very low. Now, would you buy it...? I don't recommend it, but you can still try.

I have had Driver Genius 9 now for a few days, and used it to update my three PCs. That's a pretty new Dell Studio, an older Dell Inspiron, and a fairly ancient Dell Dimension 5000 desktop PC. I recently upgraded all three to Windows 7 - a painful process, even if for someone who is relatively PC literate. The problem? Dell use parts from all over the place to keep their prices low, so finding the right drivers (the little bits of instruction software that help everything work together) can be very difficult. Oddly, the newer the machine, the harder I found it was to locate the correct drivers for key bits of hardware. I made a number of fair guesses, and got everything working, but I have been aware for a while now that many of the drivers I used were out of date.
Until now.
Driver Genius installed very easily - a simplistic process for anyone. It quickly scanned my PCs for the most up-to-date drivers, prompted me to back-up my old drivers (just in case anything went wrong), and then set about downloading and installing them. DG9 found between 22 and 39 out of date drivers, and I haven't had a single problem with the installation of them.
I'd like to see more effort go into the user interface and functionality - for example, I'd like to be able to fix other problems in the same bit of kit. However, DG9 doesn't promise any such tools, so I can't complain (maybe the next version....?).
Overall, a very useful piece of software and one I know I will be running regularly to keep things up-to-date. I'm very impressed at how easy - and how cost effective - driver location and installation can now be.
