After the post-production mess that was Kill Switch, Seagal needed a decent,DTV action movie. And that's what he delivers in this one.A bloody, brutal revenge story and nothing more. Seagal plays Ruslan,ex-Russian mafia who now writes crime novels. When he returns to the US for his daughter's wedding he is treated with a horryfying surprise. His daughter has been attacked, and heavily injured and his ex-wife has been brutally murdered. So Ruslan decides to avenge them and to kill whoever is responsible for their suffering. You know the usual plot that Seagal has been up to for the last 10 years, but there is a new cool twist, the Russian mafia..That gives the advantage to Ruslan to operate outside the law and he fully takes the opportunity.Seagal's Russian accent is indeed quite heavy, it disappears in a few scenes but it is fairly steady throughout the film, while dubbing not that often. The fight scenes are the best since Pistol Whipped, brutal with no stunt doubles, and done amazingly by Seagal(highlight is a long knife fight in a strip joint).Seagal even runs and chases a thug, something we haven't seen in a long time. The ending is another high point featuring explosions, gun fights and the usual hand to hand combat with the lead villain. The direction is average, the editing less frantic but you still get a lot of shots of Seagal's face in the middle of the fight scenes. But thankfully this time you can actually SEE the action. The supporting cast is OK, didn't find a terrible performance not a very good one either. You get the girl from Watchmen(Laura Mennel) and the heavy from Indiana Jones 4.So it's not that bad..For a DTV action flick, Driven To Kill is quite good and Seagal's best in a long time..

4.0 out of 5 stars Driven to Kill - blu ray review 20 Nov 2009
By M. Tack
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ok lets get the blu ray issue out the way, picture quality is pretty grainy and looks like a digital post effect. The quality is certainly better than DVD but not by much. No extras to mention except a trailer, however the price difference is negligable so if u got a blu ray player go for it!

Sound is lossless with booming bass so good marks for that.

The Movie: Yeah I'm a Seagal fan so don't bother even renting this unless you are - that said I thought Steve's acting was pretty good, and I found the russian accent ok ( unlike some people seem to find in other reviews here). Well he may have dropped it for one or two lines but Steve really sells the ex russian mafia type pretty well... I think it works cos' he is playing a character who is nearer his real age - also you are not expecting him to be underweight etc so any issues over his waist size become irrelevant

The story is predictable as you would expect ( but hey - people rave about TAKEN and thats a formula driven as the next action movie), some of the support actors very good, some not so - the action scenes suffer a little bit from excessive camera shake ( a trend I will hope die out sooner rather than later ) but there is still some good stuff for fans to enjoy here. The strip club knife fight is particularly brutal and satisfying and *SPOILER ALERT* the "pistol rammed into an eye socket and shot" is fab - lol

Overall a 3.5* star release which at the very least is proof that Steve is out of the doldrums finally and who knows a revival in "big" terms could be on the horizon for the ponytailed one - I hear he is in the next Rodriguez MACHETE movie - wow

4.0 out of 5 stars Seagals best since Exit Wounds!! 5 April 2011
Format:DVD
Driven to Kill is Seagals best films since Exit Wounds. It has a decent, simple revenge story, Seagal looks fairly in shape with no stunt doubles (well no extremely noticeable ones) and there is no dubbing. The action is well done and the supporting cast give fairly decent performances. Seagals accent is ok as well.

Its not perfect. There are some minor mistakes, flaws and plot holes but there not too significant to ruin the movie.

I cant think of a better film he has made since Exit Wounds, Renegade Justice is on par, and for that reason I recommend it to Seagal fans and action fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars SEAGAL IS BACK!!! 20 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is, without one single doubt, the best Steven Seagal film since 'Exit Wounds'; it's darker and better than 'Exit Wounds'in fact! It reminds one of the classics of old, like 'Hard to Kill' and 'Out for Justice'; brilliant and often brutal fight scenes, a decent plot that has you guessing as to the husband's involvment in the brutal wounding of Rusland (Seagal's) daughter and the murder of his ex-wife...
This really is Seagal on top, five-star form! The opening scene, where Rusland shows a curious girl in a resturant an old trick from his younger years, whereby a spike is hidden under one of three paper cups and they are shuffled around by her, and then he then flattens one- BAM!!! -without getting his hand spiked, is AWESOME!!! She asks him, 'How do you do the trick?' and he replies... 'The trick is to not give a f**k'.
This sets the tough I-don't-give-a-you-know-what ex-maffia/mobster character that Seagal plays - a totally awesome character. And a totally awesome movie. The action-packed ending alone, set in a hospital, could be called 'Under Seige 3'.

3.0 out of 5 stars a nasty Seagal kills some even nastier people 21 April 2013
By tallmanbaby TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
From the rather generic title, you can probably guess that this is another straight to DVD Steven Seagal film. In this one he plays a Russian former gangster, who now writes. The former gangster bit is fairly convincing, the writing less so, he patently cannot type for toffee.

Slightly slow to start, once it gets going there is plenty of action. Unfortunately the plot is convoluted rather than twisty, so it is difficult to get entirely caught up in it.

The action is stronger than in many of these films, there are quite a few squirm inducing moments. Seagal's character is no zen quoting do-gooder. He is also more mobile than in some of his movies, for example he even runs at one point. There is some nudity, though those of a sensitive nature might be relieved to hear that it is not Seagal. The film closes with a shoot out in a hospital, though considering how brutal the film had been up to that point, it was quite restrained/conventional compared to similar scenes in Hard Boiled and Game of Death.

The filming, acting, and script are all functional enough. Some flash cinematography or humour would have been nice additions, but if you want a nasty Seagal killing even nastier bad guys, then this does just that.
