Product Description

The true crime story of sex killer Westley Allan Dodd--his victims were too small to fight...and too young to die! Includes eyewitness execution report.

By all appearances, twenty-nine-year-old Westley Allan Dodd was the perfect all-American boy—model high school student, camp counselor and U.S. Navy enlistee. But behind his mask of normalcy lurked a predatory sex fiend with a seventeen-year history of appalling acts of molestation and violence. Children were his victims and the parks of the Pacific Northwest his personal hunting grounds.

On September 4, 1989, his unnatural desires had driven him past simple satisfaction to abduct, torture, and kill two young boys in Vancouver, Washington. Undetected despite his record, Dodd killed a third innocent victim only weeks later near Portland, Oregon. But only when he was caught trying to kidnap a child from a local movie theater was he finally taken into custody by police. Confessing to these heinous murders, he was convicted on all three counts and sentenced to death.

Based on exclusive access to police files and riveting trial testimony, personal interviews with Dodd himself and excerpts from his chilling "diary of death," Driven to Kill dramatically recounts a hideous spree of death and horror that brought every parent's worst nightmare frighteningly to life!

"Horrific...This story will leave you gasping." True crime author Jack Olsen

More About the Author

True crime author Gary C. King has been writing bizarre, compelling and authentic true stories of murder and mayhem for the past 33 years. In the pages of his books you will find stories about serial murderers and cannibal killers, celebrity murders, torture murders, crimes of passion, among many others--chilling crimes that could only be perpetrated by the twisted minds and gruesome obsessions of coldblooded killers, the stuff of which horror movies and novels are made. Much of his freelancing has been for True Detective magazine between day jobs that included technical writer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and specialized work for the Department of Defense. In 1980 he took over crime writer Ann Rule's job as Pacific Northwest stringer for the detective magazines based out of New York, and wrote for those so-called "dick" books until they ceased publication in 1995 and hasn't looked back since.

In addition to writing 17 traditionally-published books for Penguin USA, St. Martin's Press, Pinnacle Books, and John Blake Publishing in the U.K. and 500 or so stories for the aforementioned detective magazines, King has also written extensively for Investigation Discovery's website and continues to provide occasional online content for Turner Broadcasting's Crime Library. A couple of years ago he made the choice to go "indie," a decision that he's been very pleased about making, and now publishes under his own imprint, Bleak House Publishing, Inc.

King's television appearances have included Entertainment Tonight, Larry King Live, Inside Edition, Court TV, MSNBC's Headliners and Legends, E!, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Extra TV, and several other national and local programs. He also frequently provides radio interviews. King was recently featured in an episode of Biography about serial killer Robert "Willie" Pickton, the subject of his book, Butcher, and in an episode of Dominick Dunne's Power, Privilege, and Justice called "Strange Bedfellows," about the murder of Nevada State Controller Kathy Augustine and the subject of King's An Almost Perfect Murder.

King is an active member of the Association of Independent Authors, and is also president of that organization's Las Vegas chapter. He also holds active memberships in the Authors Guild, Mystery Writers of America, The Crime Writers' Association (U.K.), International Thriller Writers, and the International Association of Crime Writers.

King is also active in social media online. You can connect with him on Twitter and Facebook, and can also reach him via his website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond evil 12 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although Gary King warns you of the details of this book to actually read what happened to the children Dodd killed is totally beyond belief.

The subject matter of this book is not for the faint hearted but Gary King has tried to write this book not only with the facts but with a sense of compassion for the victims their families and also the police officers concerned.

Its a book which delves into the most appaling of crimes that which are done to innocent children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very upsetting book 13 Dec 2011
By Jade
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I'm a true crime buff, have lots of books on serial killers etc, but this
book is by far the most sickening disturbing I've ever read. I understand why the author felt
compelled to go into so much detail & reveal the shocking true nature of this particular mans evil, but
it was way too much for me. What these poor children went through will break your heart, this book was very disturbing it gave me
nightmares & I wish I never read it. It's definitely not for the faint hearted. I gave this book 5 stars because
it is very well written, & I believe the author showed the evil & danger that children can come up against & maybe in a way teaching parents on what to teach their children should they ever come face to face with such evil.

Couldn't put it down. Up to Gary King's high standard. This child predator is truly a monster, and the streets are a safer place without him.

5.0 out of 5 stars some people are born evil. 11 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
not often am i truly shocked. but utter depravity of Dodd left me aghast! this vile, foul man was every parent and child's worst nightmare. he was a stalking, premeditated monster. this book also takes into account the emotions of the policemen who had to take the statements from dodd.a very well written book, but very harrowing.
