Duncan is looking for a missing Van Gogh and his quest has brought him to Swiftcurrent Oregon which seems like a sleepy small town but is really anything but. His first clue is the librarian Alexander Forrest. She is hot with a capital H! Ducan and Alex's first meeting is not the coolest meeting and sparks fly between these two very different individuals.
Alex likes order, peace, books, and dressing sexy. What she doesn't like (at least to this point) are smarmy "Indiana Jones Wannabe's" taking peeks up her skirt while "looking" for research material. She totally does not believe that Duncan is a College professor let alone a art buff! Ya right!!!
What brings these two together you ask? Why a dead body in the in the home decorating section of the library of course! Now there is a murder to solve, a painting to find, and Alex doesn't realize it but she may just have all of the clues. And then of course there is the raging hot chemistry that both Duncan and Alex need to either admit to or....burn up trying to get it out of their system!
This was a fun full-length romance that was a nice read. The character's were quirky, and the storyline was fun. I at times found myself skimming pages because there were a few slow spots but overall I think this book was good. Ms. Warren is well on her way to be great author!!!
Duncan is what he claims, but he?s also known as ?the Indiana Jones of the art world? for his efforts in tracking down stolen works of art. He has come to Swiftcurrent because of a lead on a Van Gogh painting secreted out of France before the Nazi invasion. His information is that a Franklin Forrest was the last person to possess the painting and, though unfortunately the old man has recently died, it looks like Duncan has just stumbled onto his granddaughter. So he doesn?t reveal his true reason for being in town and sticks to Alex like glue for three reasons: 1) she may know where the painting is 2) she may be in danger given the dead body found in her library and 3) she?s drop dead gorgeous, fun to be with and incredibly sexy! Alex tries to resist him, heck she doesn?t really even trust him, but he?s the hottest and most fun guy she?s met in a long time and so she succumbs to his considerable charms.
Police Chief Tom Perkins is also suspicious of Duncan, who arrived in town at almost the same time as a man was murdered. But he?s thorough and looks into all possible leads and that includes Alex?s unstable cousin Gillian. Tom has had a thing for Gillian since high school, but she left town years ago then returned with a husband Tom never did like and a drug problem. Could the dead guy be some sort of drug contact of Gillian?s? He doesn?t really believe that and Gillian adamantly professes her innocence. Gillian is going through a tough time as she has just divorced her husband and is trying to stand on her own for the first time in her life. Everyone in town (including Alex) thinks she?s a drugged out screw-up and her slightly neurotic behaviour only fuels the gossip. Has Gill finally lost it? Tom refuses to believe it and comes to her rescue at her lowest moment. Then things begin to get more dangerous when both Duncan and Alex each have life-threatening experiences. Who is behind them and why? And whatever did happen to that painting?
This was a really enjoyable book with a fast pace and lots of chemistry between both Alex & Duncan and Tom & Gillian. The mystery of the painting was not deep and the villain of the piece was fairly obvious, but it was fun to play detective along with Duncan and, when he admits the truth to her, Alex. Tom and Gillian?s romance was very sweet and satisfying as Gillian pulls her life together and gets to experience a pure love for the first time in her life. And Duncan's larcenous family background was also good for a few giggles! A very highly recommended read!
Professor Duncan Forbes is in sleepy little Swiftcurrent, Oregon in search of a missing Van Gogh. While doing research at the local library he sees the sexiest woman on the planet. Much to his shock Miss Alex Forrest is the librarian. Wowza, Alex complexly blows away Duncan?s image of a typical librarian. Alex is way to sexy and is the granddaughter of the late Franklin Forrest, who may have had the missing painting. Duncan and Alex?s first meeting snaps and sizzles. Alex has her life planned, she wants to settle her grandfather?s estate and move to the big city. She hadn?t planned on a studly professor upsetting those plans.
When a body is found in the library things really start to heat up. Along the way to romance, this couple survives and attempted murder and a shooting. The intrigue in this story is very compelling and will keep you on your toes.
There is a secondary romance that is so sweet and emotional. Gillian is Alex?s cousin and is fresh from a divorce. She reconnects with an old friend Tom who is the cop investigating the new crime wave in town. This romance really complements the main
story.
This book has everything you want in a great book, I just loved it. Alex and Duncan?s chemistry makes the pages singe in your hands. Their verbal foreplay is funny as it is steamy. You can?t go wrong with this book.
