Peter Roberts (Thomas Jane) is a former US race car driver living in Queensland, the other Sunshine State. He is a part time driving school instructor with a failing marriage. An entertaining Simon Keller (John Cusack) employs Roberts to be his instructor...and park here while I rob this bank. Roberts becomes the unwilling, unlikely get away driver as Keller makes off with nine million in bonds. He explains why in this very linear plot.

The banking institute he robbed are likewise criminals who double crossed him. They send out hitmen. Meanwhile the feds led by an unconvincing, unbuttoned blouse Zoe Ventoura are in pursuit as our robbers make their way across Australia in a couple of different muscle machines.

About half of the film takes place in a car, not as bad as "Vehicle 19" but noticeable. Some of the scenery rolling by in the background looks like 1950's special effects. The driving scenes were not impressive and certainly misrepresenting the title. This is a low action, light comedy crime film. Cusack does a good job delivering his one liners and along with a few brief scenes by the daughter excited by the fact her dad is a bank robber, provide the only reasons to watch this film.

Mildly entertaining as long as you are not expecting a heavy action film.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Former racing-ace 'Peter Roberts' lives with his family, his young daughter
attends a private and very expensive private school.
The only driving he does these days.....a part-time job as a driving instructor,
which doesn't pay that well, although his wife works, they struggle to make
ends meet.
Arriving for work, 'Peter' has a 9.am appointment, 'Simon Keller' has researched
the former 'racer' and had asked for his services specifically.
'Simon' hasn't anything to learn in driving terms, however he does need a skilled
driver such as 'Peter' to avoid the law.
Part way through what is turning out to be an unusual lesson, 'Simon' asks to
stop off at the bank, and tells 'Peter' he'll only be 5 minutes.
'Simon' has just robbed the bank, 'Peter' becomes an accomplice seemingly, the
pair are now being chased and shot at.
How is 'Peter' going to explain this away to his wife, the law and his daughter,
he's being forced at gunpoint to do what he does best ....drive.
They switch cars, dumping the driving-school vehicle for a high-powered motor that
'Simon' had in waiting.
They head toward the Australian Gold Coast pursued by a accomplices hired thug
along with many cops........sadly, a high-speed, stunt-filled chase never quite
kicks-off as you would of expected from this type of movie.
Some violent scenes along the way.....if yer' still awake to witness them.
This is a low-budget offering .....less than convincing......often a little silly,
occasionally amusing perhaps... don't waste your money.

Two good actors pick up pay cheque in underwhelming chase thriller come comedy, that isn't very exciting or funny.

A few car stunts but filmed in such a pedestrian manner it's good it has such a short runtime, as boredom soon creeps in.

Worth a watch, but instantly forgetable low budget filler movie.

Better than I thought it would be.
Funnier than I thought it would be.
John Cusack and Thomas Jane turn in zany performances with funny moments.
If you like this you would probably like Hit and Run too.

Poor script and poor acting. I'm sure John Cusack just picked up his cheque for this one. A dire attempt at a well trodden path of ex driver films. Show the Aussies should stick to Mad Max films.

First of all this is not a serious film as the misleading cover would have you believe. This film is no fast and furious or anything like that but there are some car chase moments if thats your thing but not the best in the world. The story as such is based around Cusacks character commiting a robbery and forcing Janes character to be the getaway driver. John Cusack is fine in his part but even he cant work miracles with this kind of dodgy script and why he even took the role is beyond me. As for Thomas Jane well lets just say his acting in this film would sit very nicely between two pieces of bread a real low point in his career without a doubt. The film is set in australia which will also come as a surprise to you im sure as the leading men are american stars. On one last note the australian actors are quite bad especially the young girl who plays Cusacks daughter the only role suitable for her would be pinnochio.
