Compelling and disturbing!,
By
This review is from: Driftnet (Paperback)
A rent boy is left dead, strangled during sex and Forensic Scientist Rhona MacLeod is dragged from her bed and called to the scene.
Whilst the scene is disturbing enough, she is also shocked by how much the young man looks like her and fears he may be the son she gave up for adoption seventeen years ago. This is a compelling novel that enters into the dark, seedy world of internet paedophile rings, preying on youngsters and grooming them to fulfil their sordid desires. Corruption, intrigue and a likeable heroine, it's got it all. A brave subject that whilst often uncomfortable reading, is realistic and tense enough in parts to make your skin crawl. The characters are well drawn and believable, from the monster who befriends the victims, the tired and jaded police officer to the Forensic Scientist with the messy love life. This is the first of Lin Anderson's books I've read and I understand it to have been her debut novel. I look forward to reading more by this talented author.

A great read,

This review is from: Driftnet (Kindle Edition)
This is Lin Anderson's debut novel where she introduces her main character, who will appear in later books, Rhona MacLeod.
The book starts off with a description of a young man dying in bizarre and disturbing circumstances. Rhona, who is a forensic scientist, is called to the crime scene to gather evidence. While she is there a comment is made that the victim looks incredibly like her. This goes over her head at the time. However, over the course of the investigation the same comment keeps cropping up and she starts to realise that the victim is the same age as the son she gave up for adoption at birth. The story builds up and we realise that there is a strong link between the victim, murderer and the world of paedophiles. Some parts of the story make for slightly uncomfortable reading due to the subject content. Lin develops her characters very well and Rhona quickly becomes a well liked person who it is easy to empathise with. There are a couple of sub plots within the story which work well together and provide plenty of background information to help bring the characters and the story to life. Although the book is fast paced throughout it does seem extremely rushed towards the end and I felt that it could have done with another couple of chapters to bring it to a much more satisfying conclusion. Overall, a great read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I will most certainly be trying another one of Lin's books.

I really enjoyed this book,

I really did enjoy this book on the whole - like some of the other reviewers I did find the ending a bit rushed, and felt that some things weren't explained. which is the only reason for the 4* review.
I thought that the plots were interwoven quite well, and I liked the characters, and cared about what happened to them I will try the next book in the series.
