Happy Customer! 21 Dec 2012
By Kathy - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I just received this book and was sooo excited to finally get it. It has very detailed pictures and patterns in the back to enlarge and copy. However... I was hoping it would show how to make your OWN patterns. It shows how to make your own clothes as the book states and how to adjust ready made patterns. I am happy I bought it though, it has a lot of very good information.
I woul recommend this book to anyone who is just starting to sew or someone who is looking to learn more.

Great book for beginners & advanced sewers!!! 24 Sep 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I just got this book a few days ago and I love it. I have been sewing for years, but I still like to read new sewing books for new techniques. I like how this book breaks down the how to's of sewing. The photos are clear and easy to understand at any sewing level. I recommend this book to anyone who likes visual aids to help their understanding of sewing techniques.

Poor Quality Patterns 16 July 2013
By GrnLadyBee - Published on
Format: Hardcover
As stated before the pictures inside the book are of poor quality sewing. I love the idea of basic patterns that can then be altered, and access to these basic patterns in downloadable format. However, with much care and attention to detail on my part, it was clear that the pattern I used had some major flaws. For example, some of the seam line marks are missing on some of the pages (which you'll have to tape together), but it is easy to just dot them in 5/8ths inside the cutting line. Specifically I printed out the pattern for basic dress design 1 in my correct size and the resulting "dress" was gaping at the armpits, pointy at the side seam bottom edge, and way too bowed out at the sides. To make it work I'd have to add shoulder darts, more bust darts, trim the sides and reshape back neckline and add a strip of elastic in the front under the bust hidden by a bow or something to make it work. What was once an exciting project is now a sad time-hole. Poor pattern does not a dress make.

Best book hands down for beginners!! 12 April 2014
By April A. - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I purchased quite a few sewing books at the same time here on amazon they were all pretty good but this one was by far the most explanatory one and easiest to understand. Just about anything I needed to look up was listed in here. Whether it be shorting or lengthing any part of a pattern or altering it to my specific measurements. It had good photography and was written to be easy to understand, it didn't assume I knew all the sewing terms and slang. I will use this book over and over.
