Book Description

13 Oct 2011
William Travilla is one of the best costume designers of all time and Marilyn Monroe his most famous client. Marilyn's Dresses will focus on the striking dresses Travilla designed for Marilyn, from his early work on the thriller Don't Bother to Knock and the gorgeous pink dress in which Marilyn sang "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" to the legendary white dress from The Seven Year Itch, which arguably contributed to the collapse of Marilyn's marriage to Joe DiMaggio. Featuring Travilla's original sketches, rare costume test shots, dress patterns, photographs of Marilyn wearing the dresses, plus exclusive and never before- seen extracts from interviews with Travilla, this book offers a fresh insight into the golden age of Hollywood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dressing Marilyn, Hollywood style 13 Oct 2011
I really like this book. If you are a Marilyn fan like me, it is incredibly fun to read these stories about her most famous dresses and costumes. Acompanied by beautiful photos, some rare and William Travillas beautiful sketches. This is a book dedicated to the talent and genius of the designer Travilla, but as the title suggests also features a lot of Marilyn Monroe as their relationship was so special. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous 21 Nov 2011
If you are a fashion fan or a Marilyn fan this book is a must have. Lovely photos and a fabulous insite into one of the greatest clothes designers relationship with Marilyn. I learnt so much about both Marilyn and Travilla, it made me laugh and made me cry. He was a genius and I want to know more now. Mr Hansford you have done a brilliant job.

This book describes the dresses that William Travilla made for Marilyn with very interesting facts. It would be nice if the patterns were included but i understand that's too much to want for ;-) I have a lot of books about MM and i think this is one of the best. But that could be because i like fashion a lot too. Another great book is Marilyn Metamorphosis by the way, check that out too! Also one of the best i have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for everyone!! 25 Feb 2013
I have purchased 4 books at once since just the cover looks so great and Travilla was such a good designer. Andrew Hansford really did such good work in studying Travilla and the designs. Its written with much love and its very informative and entertaining. It has loads of beautiful pictures and sketches. Its a must have for all Marilyn fans, Marilyn Monroe tribute artists (like myself)designers, fashion lovers and I would say anyone since its so beautiful. I have given the book away to several friends and I am ordering a few more to give to friends who are designers and seamstresses. I have it on my table ready to look into it right away and every day.
