A great little tool that can be used on just about any material with the right attachments. I used mine mostly for shaping and sanding small wood projects and it's ideal. It works equally well on other materials.

If, like me, you want to spend time on detail work then I strongly recommend investing in the Flexi Shaft which is a a tube with a small handle on the end. In fact Dremel produce a package with the 300 series tool the Flexi Shaft included in the same storage case. To use the Flexi Shaft, you attach the shaft, hang the Dremel from its hook (you can buy or make a hanger) or you can lay it down, and the power is transferred to the Flexi Shaft handle. The Dremel itself is a bit too big and heavy for really detailed work over a long period and the handle makes it easier to work with.

There are a number of different Dremel tools and the 300 series is about mid-range in terms of power. It's ideal for detail work and most small DIY jobs. You should check the right model for you depending on what you want to use it for. The more powerful models are a bit bigger and heavier and more expensive. There is also a rechargeable cordless model although I've never used it so can't comment on how well it works.

The attachments are interchangeable between models. It's possible to buy attachments not made by Dremel. I've used them and they're variable in quality. It's probably worth sticking to the genuine Dremel attachments as far as you can, as they last well and aren't too expensive.

The only small criticism I have is not worth knocking off a star for. The instructions that Dremel provide aren't very clear and it might take a while to figure out how to get started, but once you've managed that it should be plain sailing.

    Excellent buy 14 Aug 2010
This is a great little tool, very well built and the bits supplied (although not many) are a lot better quality than the cheaper non dremel bits, for instance, you can cut a fair length of 1mm steel sheet before the blade is eaten up, cheapies tend to wear down a lot faster. The case is great and will protect it all when not in use, overall I am very impressed and so glad I paid the extra twelve or so pounds for the better make. If you need a multitool this is the one to get, others I have used just dont compare :o)

    Best I've Had !! 2 Oct 2010
Am a model engineer, who has worn out three of the "cheap" drills in quick succession. They are rubbish...the only useful thing is the zillions of accessories you get with them. THEN, bought Dremel 300 =-----= this has plenty of power, and seems to take all I can throw at it. The price is 2 - 3 times a cheapie, but you gets what you pay for.
I really can't fault this drill, and am so pleased to now have one that keeps going, and does what it says. Buy,Buy,Buy !!!! It's a beauty.
