The flexible extension is excellent for detailed work such as engraving and fine polishing, or even doing work into small spaces, where the rotary tool would not fit.
On the down side though, is that it takes a lot of screwing, unscrewing in order to attach it to the dremel and then remove it, and that the dremel must be hanging so that the extension is vertical, otherwise friction inside the extension cord will eliminate any torque your tool can offer.

If you need to get into confined spaces, or your job is time-consuming and intricate, hang your rotary tool on a workstation and extend the chuck / collet by using a 225 Flexishaft. The lightweight 225 Flexishaft will make life easier for you - less weight to support whilst performing rotary tool functions.

Had this bit of kit brought for me as a present. Being a keen modeler I thought it would give me a lot more freedom when I needed to do some detailed cutting and grinding. Trouble is, I feel, the 'flexible' shaft is not all that flexible and although it does make the job a bit easier, it's not as much of a change as I was expecting. The build quality is not all that I would have expected from Dremel either, and leads me to say that they seem to be living off their reputation for quality tools, which are not really as good as they once were. I have a selection of power tools, all of which have parts that are, one the whole, interchangeable. No so with the Dremel bits. They can only be used on their kit. Brand exclusivity may seem like a good marketing setup, but can frustrate the enduser who wants value for money.

A brilliant piece of kit, it is what you would expect from dremel, they are still the best, does what it say's on the tin.

A most useful tool enabling one to work in so many restricted places and especially in 'flat' situations where the bulk of the Dremel drill stops normal operation - ie when using cutting discs. I do not know how I managed without it in the past.
