5.0 out of 5 stars Useful book 19 Jun 2014

Having listened to my husband's frustration with getting round the new Dreamweaver, I ordered this book & he is absolutely delighted so far. It's a powerful programme & this book should help to explain how to use it.

I bought this book as a companion reference book to the Adobe Dreamweaver CC Classroom in a Book which I have just worked through. This Dummies book has a comprehensive index at the back and is therefore useful for checking some detail that you may have forgotten. Being printed on semi-gloss paper, the colour illustrations are superlative. The author herself writes "You don't have to read through this book cover to cover ... [it is] a quick study guide and a reference you can return to", and she has got this exactly right.

As a beginner to Dreamweaver, I do not think I could have learnt Dreamweaver from this book alone, nor do I think the author intended this. However, having finished and set aside my Classroom in a Book, I have been referring to this book and the Adobe web site every time I need to check some detailed point.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well constructed user manual 9 Sep 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Almost there, even for a dummy. I think that my problems lie more with the structure of Adobe's program than this manual.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Source of Information. 5 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you are a complete beginner, I would imagine learning Dreamweaver CC could be a fairly daunting prospect. You really would not have a clue where to start.

The majority of the web design industry seems to have the hump with Adobe since it switched from the "buy-our-software" model to the new "rent-our-software" scheme. I don't know if this is the reason but if you search YouTube for Dreamweaver CC tutorials there are very few indeed. Compare this to the older Dreamweaver CS6, their last DVD-ROM-in-a-box release. There are scores of tutorials for that.

In fact, the only video available for a while was one promoting this Dummies book. Consequently, lacking any other cheap means of learning the software I bought the Kindle version.

I should declare an interest, I am quite a fan of the Dummies series. This must be about my 10th purchase, including books about previous versions of Dreamweaver. I am writing this short review therefore from the perspective of somebody who wanted detailed instructions on anything which is new or has changed from the last version. I am not wet behind the ears with Dreamweaver.

With a fair bit of searching, in the last 3 weeks or so, I have successfully managed to find all the information I need. The explanations were fairly clear to me but, as mentioned, I am not a beginner.

My main criticism is that the assumption is made that every reader is a total novice. It would have been nice to have a short chapter for designers who know previous versions inside out. People who just want to know where the old buttons and favourite tools are located in the new version.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT for beginners 24 Jan 2014
By Julia Duin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
There's no way this book is for 'dummies' or even beginners. I took a college-level course in Dreamweaver before getting this book and I can grasp what the author means but there is no way I'd understand it w/o prior instruction. It's good for people who already have some web designing literacy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Currently Available 22 Jan 2014
By Ghost - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is a step up in quality over previous editions. The illustrations are now in color and the paper quality is significantly higher. The text is large and easy to read. There are a few omissions in terms of content and how to achieve certain functions, but overall if you are a beginner or student starting to learn web design you can't go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dreamweaver CC For Dummies by Janine Warner 7 Nov 2013
By GB - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The content seems fine, about what I'd expect so far, but I'm really just getting started. Trying to get a hosting site setup on an Adobe subscription now so I can actually put a site on the web and go from there.

One problem I do have with the book is probably a publisher problem: I need at least one full power higher magnification on my reading glasses to see the figures (1x for the text and 2x for the figures) which is a pain in the parking place! The last book I was reading was the same though, a Photoshop book by Scott Kelby. If they made the figures fit the page width instead of having 2" margins on both sides, and sometimes double columns, text on the figures could be made more consistent with the rest of the text size, and that would be a WHOLE LOT more user friendly!
5.0 out of 5 stars Good basic intro to dreamweaver cc 3 Jun 2014

I like reading this book first before I read the more technical books, as it gives me a basic undertanding. Then it is easier to understand the more in depth books. Fun and easy read.
