Product Description

Amazon Review

This comprehensive guide to Macromedia Dreamweaver 2 for Mac and Windows serves as both an introductory aid for beginners and a useful reference tool for more experienced users. Lowery does it all: He explains features and technologies fully, throws in lots of usage tips and cross-references and offers screen shots and step-by-step projects.

Lowery begins by explaining Dreamweaver, the current HTML standards, and new features such as dynamic styles and JavaScript behaviours. He provides a tour of the interface and helps you set your preferences, starting you off in the planning and creation of your first site. Later he goes into more detail about HTML, showing how to use Common Gateway Interface (CGI)programs, plug-ins, ActiveX, Java applets and scripts and VBScript. (DHTML gets its own section too.) There's a series of explanations on specific Dreamweaver capabilities, from creating objects to customising behaviours and tags.

General interest Internet topics get their due and the book covers multimedia elements, including how to add video, audio, and Shockwave movies to your Web page. For larger-scale Web sites, the sections on Cascading Style Sheets and XML will be useful, and information on dynamic databases and e-commerce issues wrap the book up nicely.

The appendices offer primers on the HTML editors BBEdit and HomeSite--advanced HTML editors for Mac and Windows users(respectively)--and on Dreamweaver Attain, a companion Dreamweaver program that helps you create instructional Web sites. The companion CD-ROM includes demos of Macromedia's Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash 3; sample code used in the book; and Dreamweaver behaviours, objects, commands, stylesheets, and inspectors. --Kathleen Caster

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have ideas to carry out 18 Jun 1999

I made coffee and opened the book knowing about eight lines of HTML code and unable to get anything at all seamless out of Dreamweaver, but determined to wade through it. Instead, the first lines of the preface seemed to talk right to me and sometime about midway through the paragraph, the concepts just sort of rose off the page and became as real as the web pages I've written with them. The book is concise, hits the mark almost without fail, and moves at a pace that can only be achieved by the ability to set technology to a a rhythm that all but rhymes, ah ha!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to... 25 May 1999

Format:Paperback
Being new to web development, I would love to buy *one* book that would answer all of my questions and show me a step-by-step on every conceivable technique possible with DreamWeaver 2. This book doesn't do that, nor does it claim to. But it is an excellent reference for DW2 and Lowery is a very, very good technical author. On every occasion that I have consulted this book, I have found the answer I needed, or a reference to where I might find it. Only minor drawback was that I felt the CD-companion could have been beefed-up with more tutorials and examples.

Got a hacked copy of Dr 2? I haven't, but I know someone who has. This book helped her really get to grips with the ambient qualities of D2. If you really need to get chilled on your site design you need this book.Don't f around with crappy html -just go for s hot wysywig stuff that this book loads on you. Don't forget to check the html editor sometimes though! Dreamweaver forgets to clean its house baby! And that ain't no faulting this book. It's the best investment my friend made on top of the cheap crack from her Dutch friends. A damn fine cooking book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential! 29 Sep 1999

Format:Paperback
I only wish I'd got this book earlier, but I'm glad I did at all. In keeping with the 'Bible' series, the first 22 pages of the book are total waffle, but then he starts getting down to the practical stuff. I read pages 22-47 over the course of a very leisurely two and a half hours with Dreamweaver 2 up on my PC and *already* I know enough to get by on my own. A fantastic book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some parts superb, others your left wondering? 30 Jan 2000
Format:Paperback
Dreamweaver 2 bible is an excellent book that brings out the power of dreamweaver. Although it's not all great and heavengly, some parts of the book leave yourself thinking, why was that in there? but the book is extremely useful. This book really did help me with my university course and I would definetly recommend this book for multimedia courses. A good allround book.
