Soul-stirring music against a backdrop of Inspiring Nature Scenes & Colourful Costumes, 19 May 2009
This review is from: Dreams of the Wind DVD + CD set by Wayra: Contemporary Native American Music (DVD)
After seeing some of Wayra'a clips on U-tube I just had to buy the DVD! It exceeded my expectations - what wonderful landscapes, mountains, canyons, rivers, waterfalls & Inca ruins. Locations drawn from North & South America. Nice film clips of Indian braves on horseback and wild mustangs.
In each track Wayra wears a different and increasingly wonderful crafted Native American outfit and feather-band. I liked the cameos of Native American faces and head-dresses and the group war-dances. A couple of the tipis [teepees] were a bit of a disappointment - one looked like it came out of a kids "build you own teepee kit"!
I loved the clips of bald eagles soaring or just posing in their majestic magnificence, radiating power. Interesting bit of creative cinema work where the heads of an eagle and Wayra are transposed.
The flute and panpipe music was great and the orchestral backdrop on some clips gave the music great depth.
My personal favourite track was "River Song" - how incredibly relaxing, restorative, purifying and healing.
Most tracks are accompanied by wisdom quotations / proverbs from famous legendary Native Americans such as "Sitting Bull", "Geronimo" and "Red Bear". My favourite is this Cherokee one "Just as the sun warms the earth, Love warms our lives!" The love that has gone into creating this DVD has certainly warmed my life!
