Wow!! Where do I start? I bought my first copy of 'The Dreaming' in its original vinyl form in the eighties, and since then I have grown older and - dare I say - wiser. But this record has lost none of its charm in my eyes. It is wild, diverse and a feat of imagination. As a whole, Kate Bush's work is not to be ignored but this is a journey through the darker and lighter side of the human psyche...very impressive, especially so as Kate was in her early 20's when the album was released...not for everyone though :-)

Here we have Kate in charge of her own destiny and lock herself away in the dark corners of her mind she takes us, holding your hand as she guides you through the dark passages , her little flash light illuminating open wounds.her whole project was to come up with the perfect writing of the moment. I think she rose to the challenge, there are a few lighter reflections that lift one from the gloom. her voice is powerful and rich, the extra overdubs add colour and deepth its overlooked and a shame. a fantastic record and Miss Bush was only playing with us!!

This is what Kate Bush is all about. Massive drums, deep bass, extraordinary & powerful vocals, whimsical narrative, up river instrumentation, totally different and innovative. This album is too often talked about as the precursor to the acclaimed Hounds of Love. This is too dismissive as The Dreaming is not a lead into the following album despite observations that could be made over her development from one album to the next. It still stands alone as her most intimate but musically accomplished work only rivalled by Aerial. The fact that this was made in the early eighties is amazing, it feels real and original now as then, bucking any trend; on purpose?

Kate Goes Experi-Mental! Great Packaging Tho' 14 Dec 2005
By Frederick Baptist - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is an expensive version of Kate Bush's 4th album which represents Kate's truly concept album. Beautiful in many ways but it does take a while to grow on you. The title track is the one that's on "The Whole Story", her best of compilation but although there are no other "hits" to make it to that album, the other tracks are all part of the bigger work of art that is "The Dreaming". Now this album mini-lp sleeve packaging is a work of art in itself and like most art, costs a bundle. The sound quality is patchy and the volume levels are higher for some tracks than they are for others. As this version of the disc is not remastered either, you'll have to decide whether or not to pay the much higher price for this disc if you either already have the remastered version of this or even any other version if the packaging is not important to you. If you are new to Kate's work and don't yet have this, you may have to decide if sound quality is important to you as well. Otherwise, although the tracks are good and the album itself is worth getting, I'm not sure if it makes economic sense to pay so much just for the mlps. Just my 2cts worth.

The Darkest Child in her eyes 3 Jun 2006
By WoW - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Kate is one of the most talented musicians on this earth. The Dreaming was underrated when it was first released, but I think that has to do with the fact that it was way ahead of its time. This is a superb album, tracks like Sat in Your Lap, Suspended in Gaffa, Leave It Open, Night of The Swallow, Houdini, and Get Out of My House proving this point. There's lots of anger on this album, as Kate put it herself many years ago, and it is her "darkest" effort to date, but it's pure brilliance! Buy it and be convinced.....
