Product Description

1-Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City 2-I Wouldn't Treat A Dog ( The Way You Treated 3-Lovin' On Borrowed Time 4-When You Come To The End Of Your Road 5-I Ain't Gonna Be The First To Cry 6-Dreamer 7-Yolanda 8-Twenty-Four Hour Blues 9-Cold Day In Hell 10-Who's Foolin' Who?

Classic 70's soul 26 Aug 2008
Format:Audio CD
Don't let the sleeve put you off this is a great album! I'd never heard of it until I read a magazine review a few years ago, but the reviewer was so adamant that it was a classic I thought I should take a punt. I'm very surprised this album is not more well known (or maybe I'm the only one who didn't know). Ain't Know Love In The Heart of The City is almost worth the purchase price on it's own but there are several others that are almost as good. Bland's voice mean they don't adhere to the archetypal smooth 70's soul man template, and therefore it stands on it's own merits next his classic 50's/60's recordings.

Played this to death 22 Mar 2009
Format:Audio CD
I bought this when it came out and I still dust of the vinyl copy now and again. A true classic. There aren't any bad tracks but the opener 'Ain't no love in the heart of the city' is possibly the best and 'Yolanda' has one of the funkiest bass lines you'll ever hear.

Finally if you're a Steely Dan fan you'll find many of the personnel here that appear on 'Aja' (Larry Carlton, Peter Christlieb, Jim Horn, Michael Omartian, Dean Parks and Ed Greene). The result is one of the tightest classiest bands you'll ever hear matched perfectly to one of the greatest sophisticated urban blues singers of all time.

The Sound of Soul 7 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you like the softer side of Bobby "blue" Bland, like the Bobby we hear on "California album", then this is the album for you. Good melodies, strings and the crispy, strong voice of one of the worlds best soul singers. Bobby creates a feeling of "beeing there", in those marvel-years for all us soul fans: the seventies.
