For those of you who are not familiar with the work of Steven Newton, you will be pleased to note that he is a man of real talent and one musician that has a great musical ear. That can be no more evident than on his latest release Dream Walking, the follow up to his O.W.M. Award nominated album Painted Faces.
However if you brought the former album, you will find this new release a real step into many, until now, untouched directions by Newton, like track one which starts with a steady drum beat, it is the title track Dream Walking and to me feels like a processional march that leads us into this new concept with a proud display of passion and pride.
Trailing is composition two on this new and invigorating release, this was one of my personal favourites, starting with a beautiful acoustic guitar and then the more traditional Native American flute of Newton excels. Accompanied by a hand held drum, we are treated to a piece that has a definite organic feel to it.
Going back to his solo roots Newton delivers a very haunting piece called Awakening; this track starts with a waking chant and then falls into a full flowing, and has to be said, stunning solo flute composition that literally makes the hairs on your arms stand to attention. There is something both beautiful, yet evocative about this track, it is like the ancestors and ancients are listening whist he plays and of course, they are.
We now move to an interesting composition called Panthers Moon, interesting because Panther is one of my own animal totems and as such I definitely resonated with this piece. Here Newton is once more on familiar territory and has walked into my back yard of musical spiritual delights with this track.

Steve's music always takes me on a journey, his style is unique as he experiments with different flutes from all over the world, all tracks have a mesmerising effect on me and I find myself traveling into dream time easily. I love both the albums he has created, both make me feel a connection to spirit in different ways. I look forward to hearing more from Steve in the future. The flute and his connection lead the listener to raise their vibration, and connect. Lovely.

This album is very different from the first - Painted Faces (2011). It takes you on a total journey with very different flutes and other instruments blended to give the most wonderful effects. Sea Crow will always be my favourite, as I love all the percussion with the flutes - simply beautiful. Always the perfect way to unwind and let my mind flow once more. I look forward to number 3!!!

What can I say, I bought Steve Newtons first album called Painted Faces, this is very good for those like me who wish to meditate or for someone that wants to bask in the haunting tones of the Native American flutes. Dream Walking is flute album with a twist, there are a number of influences from different countries and styles that are different to Painted Faces, this in no way detracts from the fact that you are transported to a place of peace, calm and contemplation. This is for someone who wants an album that's not like all the others!
Go buy it.

This is the second album from Steve the first being "Painted Faces". It's not just the same old stuff, Steve has made the effort to give us something else and has succeeded in producing a beautiful piece of work. This album should come with a health warning "Do Not Play Whilst Driving". Looking forward to the next one Steve, well done.

This is the second album by Steven Newton that I have listened to and I think it is better than the first one. I enjoy listening to this in the early evening when I want to unwind from the tensions and pressures that have built up during a frantic day. Very soothing and calming. I recommend putting some food on to cook, and while waiting for supper to be ready, sit back in your favourite armchair with a drink, and chill out with this album. I also like to do oracle card reading in the evenings, and this music is a great way to re-connect with my inner voice and hear my inner wisdom coming through, which can get drowned out by the hectic pace of the modern world. This music is gently relaxing but emotionally strengthening at the same time. My favourite tracks are Shape Shifting and Sky Horse.
