5.0 out of 5 stars Dream Thief, 20 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Dream Thief (Paperback)
This a five-star sci-fi story which with the right special effects would make a blockbuster movie. Rather unusually, it has a psychologist cast in the lead role, and our hero is aboard earth's latest and most sophisticated geostationary space station researching the psychophysiology of sleep in space. The megalomaniac villain has acquired some Martian alien technology, and plans to combine the alien gizmo with the sleep science to create the ultimate mind control weapon.

The story is fairly complex but well paced, and the many and varied characters are very real. Mr Lawhead has a considerable talent for dialogue, which is generally crisp even though the characters sometimes go quite deeply into the technology and philosophy of the issues. Without revealing too much, they pop over to Mars and revive a dormant Guardian-alien, and acquire a gizmo or two of their own from the not-entirely-extinct Martian civilisation...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great dream story, 1 May 2003

This review is from: Dream Thief (Paperback)
This book has two ratings: a 5 star rate to the story and a 1 star rate for the edition.
The story constantly switches between dream/reality, and sometimes we stop and ask ourselves if that part is one thing or the other. It travels in Earth, above Earth and a bit far from Earth. The caracters are superb, specially the bad guys.
But unfortunately you need very good eyes to read this book, because the letters are as small as they can be, and the book itself is nothing but ugly.

It's worth reading, but in another edition, if its available.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read., 18 Jan 2001

Dreamthief was the book that got me addicted to Stephen Lawhead. In this book the chilling character of Hocking makes your skin tingle. You feel that you have to look over your shoulder. The book is a brilliant story and very difficult to put down once you start.
