There's not much to add to some of the other reviews that share my opinion of this movie apart from the issue with the German Subs under the footage. I found them irritating after a time and there was no off button. If your a real big fan of this film then it should'nt matter much. The content is very Surreal and as mentioned in other reviews here, Dream like hence the American title (DREAM ONE) I suppose. All in all a great little film that took me back to the early 90's when it was broadcast on CH 4. Worth owning for it's rare release on DVD. Get one now or you may not ever. I've seen it nowhere other than this site.

charming, odd but a little too wobbly to be special,

this I recall from my childhood as a surreal and dreamlike thing. I guess that would the intention. It has the potential to be fantastic, but unfortunately it seems the direction was pedestrian and did not control what would have been a solid cast deliver something special. At times the performance becomes quite annoying.
Further to this I think some of the content would be seen as unfashionable, the introduction of a key character is marred as it is played as an 'uncle tom' which could unsettle and alienate the viewer. This is a shame as this actor/character held a gravitas that was lacking from much of the rest of the film.
