This truly is by far the BEST BOOK Virginia Henley has written. In her other novels (which i truly love) the hero is so easy to fall in love with. However, in this novel it is harder to love the hero-Sean and so very easy to love Emerald- Clearly she grows and matures into a woman throughout the course of this novel. When I think of Amber and Joseph and Shamus and Kathleen- I cry. Although the novel ends beautifully with Sean and Emerald together- My heart is still broken over the many lost loves. I could write forever about this book and I am undone by the emotions, spirituality, actions, and sexuality of Sean Emerald Amber Joseph Kathleen and Shamus. This novel is different from your others because the woman is not a shy coy maiden who has to be coaxed into love. Emerald's heart overflows with unrestrained love and passion while Sean keeps a part of himself locked away and later realizes his eternal love for Emerald

Another great Virginia Henley book. Historical period romances are a great way to forget our present day worries. I've read many of V.H.'s novels and this one, among several of her others, will stay on my permanent book shelf to be read again much later. The romance between Sean and Emerald unfolds for the wrong reasons, but of course continues for the right ones. A must read! Great story.

This book was a massive page turner...until the ending. Its romantic and steamy and I recomend this book NOT for children under 13 because I read it when I was 13 and thought it was dirty. Now I read it and its very immpressive and I wonder why I couldn't get to the endding because after all the steamy romance and love..its slows down the main character goes off to england and leaves Emerald for about 2 months so what happens then?? Well boring stuff like she wants to see him..and he just wants revenge aganst her father so hes not exactly fabio here...hes mean and spitefull and revengeful funny how when he is with her he longs for her and lusts for her..its like a two sided man!!! its kinda confusing!!! Its the kinda man that shouldn't be in romance novels! and the picture of him on the first inside cover is kinda gross he isn't all that handsome either! But emerald (the girl) is very lovely...come on girl you can do better than him! Well I say if you want steamy romance and don't care for a story line just skip to the good parts because they are good and forget the ending oh and imagin a better looking man! This book was not as good as people make it sound like.
