5.0 out of 5 stars Quilted landscapes on your wall, 15 Jan 2009
By Barbara Rhoades "Jackie of all Trades" (O'Fallon, MO USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Are you a landscape fan and a quilter? This book will walk you through the ways to combine your two loves.

After 28 pages of basic information such as materials, tools, color, beads and appliqué basics, you just right in to making your first quilted landscape. A color photo of the finished project is shown. A materials list is given. How to prepare the patterns and cut the fabric is the next item you find. All are clearly written. A numbered template with enlargement instructions is included.

Assembling and finished directions round out the project's directions. There are four different projects given before you come to the section on creating your own designs. This chapter contains the how-to step-by-step information to making that great photo you took on vacation into a quilted landscape you can hang on your own wall. What a great way to relive that great vacation each and every day!

5.0 out of 5 stars A textile lovers dream of a book!, 26 Jul 2009
By Ms. N. A. Williams (Oxford, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Hi, my name is nicky, and I have been doing textile art and design work for quite a few years and been on City and Guild courses in textiles, and I exhibit my work for charity.

This book has been on my 'wish list' for some time now! I wish now, I had bought it straight away!
This is a book where dreams are made, and created! Due its versitlity, once you start on these projects, it will open up a whole world of never ending projects you could do using the basic skills and ideas from this amazing author!

The brilliant aspect about this book, is ANYONE can do the projects, at any skill level! This is quite rare in textile art books. Rose Hughes takes you 'by the hand' and shows the basic skills, in easy to read and its understandable, which is the most important aspect!

(Do remember though, this book has been written in America, and it makes reference to a product called 'freezer paper' which is available in large hobbie shops. Do not worry if you cannot get that, tracing paper will do the same job, but you will need to pin the paper and do some running stitches 1/4" from the edge of the tracing paper to hold it down whilst you stitch.)

Rose takes the beginner through the basics of matching colours, the method of how to do the projects step by steps, with photographic images, and the beginings of how to design your own pictures in the future, which is most important for the beginner.

Do not worry about adding beads or cord making, thats just the icing on the cake! You can easily stitch your favourate beads, ribbons, or decorative cord by hand.

You can make these projects as big or a small as you like! Postcard size is great to start with for practice.
You can use any fabrics, scrap fabrics, old clothing fabrics you no longer want!

Even if you do not have a sewing machine, you can still do these brilliant projects by getting a plain scrap piece of fabric as a backing fabric, pin and tack, your decorative fabrics on, then use decorative stitches round the joins/seams.

This book is great for thoses who just want to have Fun!!!!!!!

I just wish I had this book in the early days when I began playing and exploring with fabrics, because at the end of the day, its all about fun, experimenting and expanding your knowledge!

I give this book 10/10, as its fabulous for beginners and more experienced textile people alike!
