This is a great film that does not need gore or CG effects. Its not a horror as I first thought it was, but a nicely acted and well scripted movie ghost/psychology. I am very glad that Daniel Craig retains his english accent in the film. I think its for the more mature movie lover that does not crave massive Hollywood style visuals for a film. (though I love all films big and small) Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz are great British actors who dont often get it wrong. This is a good film with great international actors all around.

First of all I have to say that contrary to another reviewer's assumption I am not in love with any of the leads in this film, but perhaps I like to watch things with some intelligence behind them sometimes and don't need to only watch constant shoot outs and car chases to not be bored! This is a clever little movie which is very much in the psychological guessing game genre. True, other films have tackled similar ideas (the one which came to my mind was Shutter Island) but this was well handled with a real sense of melancholy underlying the story. Recommended perhaps as one to rent rather than buy though as the twist can only be a surprise once.

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz star in this psychological thriller as a couple, Will and Libby Atenton, who live in their dream house with their two young daughters. Will has retired from his job as a New York editor and plans to write a book. Libby spends her time decorating their new home. But someone is watching them. One of the daughters reports a face at the window and Will finds footprints outside their home, not to mention youths in the basement burning candles, who say that the previous occupants of the house were all murdered. Will starts to investigate and discovers more than he bargained for.

But when Will discovers who the man is,he struggles to believe it. A clue to the mystery is the woman who lives across the road, Anne Patterson.

This is a different type of role for Daniel Craig who often plays the action man but in this he is a vulnerable family man, trying to protect his family but from whom? Dream House is more in the lines of Amityville Horror than Casino Royale. Although nearly all is revealed rather too soon in the movie which left me wondering what the rest of the movie could possibly be about, there is still a bit of a twist to throw you off track that you might not see coming. Or maybe you will. I found it well worth seeing.

Directed by Jim Sheridan, who also directed My Left Foot (1989) and The Boxer (1997)

I admit that I wouldn't have watched this film if it weren't for the three principle actors, all of whose work I admire (even if Rachel Weisz has been in a few patchy films like Constantine). From the description, the plot sounds like so many other haunted house horrors and most of them are incredibly mediocre. I think 'The Others' is the last good haunting film I've seen and even that's nothing compared to Kubrick's 'Shining' or the original 'The Haunting'. And in many superficial ways it IS very much like most haunted house films...

...But Jim Sheridan makes the wise decision to make this a film about redemption and focusses on Will's (Daniel Craig) character arc. It's true that none of the other characters have any real depth but Watts and Weisz turn in reasonable performances. The change of direction about half-way through is done well - M Night Shyamalan might have played it as a final 'twist' or other directors would have over-played it as a complete turn-about but Sheridan shows some good restraint.

The few criticisms of Dream House I have are that Elias Koteas really didn't have any use - he's here in face alone - and some parts are pretty predictable, even if they do have a lot of heart. After all is said and done, though, this is a very pleasant diversion even if it doesn't bring anything new to the table.

'Will'(Daniel Craig) leaves a ''top'' job to spend more time with his wife 'Libby'(Rachel Weisz) and their two young children to enjoy the new home.
They soon discover the house holds a horrible past .
Things soon start to happen around the house, 'Will's' life begins to unravell as the truth of the past begins to rear its ugly head, can he accept the truth of what has past, or will it destroy him.
The cast list will pull you in, and yes, worth a watch at the very least.

The film is highly underrated and is very good.

The storyline is very good and is filled with twists and turns. The reason why people don't like this film I think is because of the large storyline and how at times you are confused and are left to work out what is going on. I think this is excellent because instead of being predictable, it leaves you thinking.

The acting is stunning and Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Whatts are all brilliant.

The film is a thriller but is slightly scary. I don't think it should be a 15, it has 1 F word, 2 S words and a few scary scenes. The film is exciting and is very clever. I love it and would watch it again.
