a change of direction?? 24 April 2001
Format:Audio CD
well I didn't know what to expect....Depeche Mode have always been ones for annoucing their return by really letting you know they were back, witness personal jesus, I feel you and barrel of a gun. This track isn't the soundclash or bold statement of intent that you would normally associate with them. A relaxed mix of acoustic guitars and tuneful melodies smooth themselves over the track.........the cd is a worthy buy... just wish alan wilder was still at the controls in terms of the musical direction

Yes, Depeche Mode have created a completely different sound with their first single off the forthcoming album, "Exciter". "Dream On" blends acoustic guitars, electronic sounds, deep vocals and interesting lyrics creating a completely new and exciting style! This will definately get airplay.

Minimal and Sensual. 19 Mar 2001

A gorgeous return to form from Ver Mode. Return, because it ascends the heights of their previous career peak, Violator. The addition of Mark Bell at the production desk has focused their sound back to their true electronic roots (no bombastic rock in sight). As a result, beats bounce and scatter over pulsating undercurrents, while Martin embellishes the mix with an acoustic twang. Dave croons a cyber torch song, asking us "can you feel a little love?". Oh yes! The new album "Exciter" (named after the infamous condom, perhaps?), is a gorgeous, soporific affair. Very late night. And "Dream On" is it's silk pillow.
