As i always loved the Slits, i was intrigued enough to try Ari Up's solo effort. Although billed as Punky Reggae and undoubtedly inspired by both, i'm not sure this sits comfortably in either camp. i guess i've joined the world of Grown Ups - this is not like other music i listen to now, nor like music i used to listen to. However it does make me feel like Punk did when i discovered it, and how reggae made me feel too when i also discovered it circa 1977. This album is one of those unique albums that you can't categorize - which does fit the bill. Better Dread Dan Dead is like catching up with an old friend you haven't heard of in a million years. Well me'n'Ari were born of the same vintage!
