Product Description

Psychological horror based on a Clive Barker short story. Two college students - outcast Steve (Jackson Rathbone) and charming, mysterious Quaid (Shaun Evans) - embark on a college project to record and study people's innermost fears. Enlisting the help of fellow student Abby (Hanne Steen), they advertise for interviewees and set the camera rolling as their subjects begin to reveal the demons that haunt them. As the project gains momentum, however, it becomes apparent that the three must now face up to the traumatic events of their own pasts and finally confront their darkest fears.

It is darkly shot, using not much light, and features a group of teens, of which one basically slowly loses his sanity, with his fear and dread overcoming him. The lead in question, an art student, is traumatised from seeing his parents murdered as a child. As he descends into madness women appear slashed by the killer, until later he imagines his friends as the enemy killer he cannot erase from his troubled mind.

The acting is poor, a dislikeable teen cast delivering a teen horror flick on a budget, throwing in nudity because it has to (to keep its audience amused) and thus underwhelming with nothing new. This is a cult classic for the horror genre fans, with a credible ending (he kidnaps, tortures and/or kills his friends) as his paranoia, insanity and mind goes. The group of college teens are shooting an art project but this is more of a side distraction and reason to include pretty girls.

A weak horror drama with few thrills and a predictable and dull direction, nothing here of any substance and just another poorly done teen slasher without intelligence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not jump out scary but............. 27 Jun 2011
Format:DVD
After reading a lot of clive barker, I was quite excited to hear about this film. I even found the book and read it again so I could get the story in my head, it was a couple of years since I started the Books of Blood. I'm not going into the plot as it's been done, but I really do think this film is a gem when it comes to suspense (ok, not all the way through). If your after gore like Hellraiser, you'll be disappointed (although enough here for what it is). This film focuses on your fear and (of course) DREAD! When I first watched it i was comparing it to the short story way too much, and not really seeing through someone elses eyes. Watched it again and I really did enjoy it. A very good film adaptation I think, it sticks in your head for a bit, and I always like that in a film. It's not a film you'll watch over and over again for but how much it is now you'll be getting a bargain! Barker fans old and new if you haven't seen this then grab it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film 7 Jun 2011

I really like this film, I think the concept is great. It's also very hard to watch sometimes (toward the end, especially), but that just appeals to my morbid side. The acting is very good, and I felt quote drawn in by the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good film
Acting in this was excellent and the storyline really good, a film that you can sit and watch and then watch again. Not for those looking for the typical Hollywood horror. Read more
