I would like to state the case for this being the best English album ever made. Screw the Kinks, Blur, Pistols - this is what being English is all about.
Listen here to recall the racial tension, concrete, Police victimisation, oppression, solidarity and the futile attempts to escape of the late 70's. No fun.
I shan't bore you with all the details, but the band are tight, Lynton is at his thundering best and the songs are magnificent; particularly on '5 Nights of bleeding'.
Anyway, for me it is a reminder of driving around West Wales in my dad's bright orange hippy van, aged 6, wondering what the funny man was singing about - concrete, racism and violence being in short supply back there then.
If you are only going to buy one CD this month, buy this one.
