I bought this book out of a love for the author's brilliant pen illustrations - Winnie the Pooh and such - and was surprised at what a talented and fascinating man EH Shepherd was! Gifted with an acutely-photographic memory, he was able to vividly illustrate key scenes in his life during the late Edwardian age. The book spans only a few years of his childhood, but you can easily get a feel for the excitement and dynamism of an age where so many conventions were simply uplifted. A brilliant portal into a world so vividly-recalled, it will bring about a sense of nostalgia for an age barely anyone left has ever experienced!
