Chip Sulliven's richly illustrated book is an inspiring introduction to landscape drawing. The emphasis is placed on developing freehand sketching techniques to express sensual elements in the landscape and communciate design ideas. A wide range of material is covered from preliminary drawing excercises to express tone and texture and ideas on developing a personal style and portfolio to chapters on specific types of landscape drawing such as plans, sections and axonometric/isometrics.

This book would be valuable to folk with an interest in landscape and garden design. In a profession which has become increasingly dominated by computer graphics, Sulliven's book is a delight. It reminds us of the value of freehand techniques for creating both rapid design development drawings and beautiful and personal presentation illustrations.

As a design student i needed a book that explained the fundamentals of sketching, without the ego of the writer getting in the way. This book fulfills this with aplomb. The writer very much makes the reader feel at ease and that it is possible to turn an average joe scratcher into a half decent artist who can do 5 minutes sketches to help explain to a client a concept.
Its all about confidence which comes from practice. Practice becomes more enjoyable as you start to see results, this seems to be the thread running through the book. Which i found very encouraging being very average, and wanting so much to be able to express my ideas without having to go down the CAD route.

Happy reading and sketching to all.

Also our Tutor highly recommended this book.

AT LAST!!!

Just what I was looking for, a book to show me how to draw landscapes, gardens, grouped plants etc. Most drawing books concentrate on beginning with still life basic drawings, then jump into masterpieces. This book shows you how to create those masterpieces. If this sounds what your looking for, buy know, you won't be disappointed.
