Synopsis

The ever-increasing popularity of mythological and fantasy creatures in film, graphic novels, and television creates high demand for instruction books on drawing these fantastic beasts. In this new edition, aspiring artists will find 144 pages of clear, step-by-step instructions for drawing everything from fire-breathing dragons to seven-headed monsters and magical fairies. Information on the origin and history of mythological creatures gives this book an extra-special appeal. The author's helpful tips on shading and drawing techniques show readers everything they need to know to create their own impressive beasts. This book is unique because it features a wide range of fantasy subjects rather than focusing on only one type of creature. It also sets itself apart from similar books with its helpful information on combining graphite pencil with other media, such as charcoal and black watercolour paint or ink. In addition, this extraordinary book features dragons and other mythological creatures from around the world, including those originating in Egyptian, Irish, Norse, and Greek mythology.

Art of drawing Dragons 21 July 2009
Format:Paperback
This book sets out most types of Dragon you may wish to draw. I should have liked more colour notes and background suggestions, also I'm not sure I would have bought it if more information had been provided about the additional 'fantasy creatures'. I specifically wanted Dragons and the book delivered this subject!

Simply and well written, very clear illustrations, and easy step by step instructions. Half the book is devoted to dragons and their various types, and the other half is devoted to wide variety of other monsterous creatures. Huwawa, Garm, Echidna, Chimera, Centaur, Gnome, and Fairy to name but a few. All using the basic same techniques, this book would be a wonderful gift to anyone just starting to draw these fantastic beings. The little historic foot-notes are also alot of fun.

However this is not a book full of indepth details. Basic and bare bones is what it is, though it is nice to see someone taking an interest in the lesser noticed fantasical monsters. Hands up if you know what a Huwawa or Garm is.

Most people over the age of 14 will not be interested in a book like this. But if you are over the age of 14 and still care to take a look, then you might want to get it from your local library first.

Dragon fun. 10 Jun 2007
By Kable - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a fun book for drawing dragons and other fantasy mythological creatures. I didn't care for the artist's interpretation of some of the characters, as they were a little cartoonish for my style. However, I was expecting that from looking at the cover, and this book held up to my expectations and more. He covers a wide variety of mythological creatures from around the world in step by step format. I even found myself interested in the brief explanations of each creatures' origins, and wanting to know more. Overall, it was a fun book that can spark your imagination, and inspire some creative drawing.

Great Guide! 13 Dec 2008
By Jennifer Spencer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is a great reference to have on the bookshelf of your studio if you're an artist and a great learning tool if you want to be an artist and/or learn to draw. I have several in this Collector's Series; The Art of Basic Drawing, The Art of Pencil Drawing and The Art of Drawing People. They are all equally good and permanent books that I'm proud to have in my studio!
