5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 16 Nov 2006
One of the best 'how to draw' books I've seen in a long time. Perfect for young, budding artists, this beginners' book takes you by the hand and teaches you the very basics of fantasy figure drawing, inking and colouring.

This isn't a comprehensive artist's instruction manual and it doesn't make any claims to be. What it is, is a really good quality and easy to understand beginners guide to drawing wizards, witches and other fantasy figures.

The clear step-by-step instructions and clean page layouts make the learning process fun and help encourage creativity, imagination and application. The illustrations are beautifully created and the finished figures are professional and should provide great inspiration.

The style of drawing is designed to appeal to older kids (8+ at a guess?) who are into the fantasy world of dragons, dwarves and Tolkien, etc, etc -but that said, it could also appeal to a good percentage of adults who are looking for a gentle introduction to the world of fantasy art.

Young or old, I can highly recommended 'How to Draw Wizards...'. At under ten pounds, it is really good value, and it isn't cheap quality: The book is a good size, has a glossy, attractive cover and nice quality pages and printing, so it should stand up to plenty of continued use!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price but there is better,, 19 Oct 2007
By TG (UK) - See all my reviews
I bought this a month or so ago. At the time I thought the price a bargain until, the next week, I saw it cheaper in The Works bookshop.
The book *is* good and contains an abridged version of character/comic drawing basics plus step-by-step line drawings on specific characters including colouring tips. There is also a section on backgrounds.
So far so good.
The only thing is there are better and more comprehensive books out there. In particular 'How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way' (which is now ridiculously inexpensive) and 'Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist'. OK, they're not fantasy characters but the technique is the same.
Anyway, not upset I bought it an consider it an extra chapter to the books I already.
