I admit I ordered this item as it was the cheapest version on offer, sometimes I regret this. Not here though, it's a chunky one-piece steel item with a powder paint coating that looks quite durable. I've tried it out and it seems to work as well as can be expected. Some reviewers on similar items complain these don't work as described, then state they have chalky or stony lawns. Well I have both. The device still generally works, and after several uses the earth plugs start to get forced out of the tops of the hollow tubes, showing that you're not just compacting the earth down at the bottom of the hole. Of course, on my lawn they get bunged up with stones from time to time, and need to be cleared with a bamboo cane. I can't think any of the more expensive aerators are going to avoid that problem, so I'm very happy with this item.

I was a little concerned when i considered buying this item, as many similar items had negative reviews, either that soil kept clogging it up or it was not possible to push it into the lawn.

I had no such problems. Handy piece of kit that did the job required perfectly. Had to clear the prongs out every so often but not a huge deal and a job easily carried out with a long screwdriver.

A great piece of kit at a great price!

not a bad piece off equipment but very hard work as the plugs seem to get stuck in the holes and you have too poke them out with a stick but did the job well thou ,so if you don't mind a bit off hard work would recommend

This item is absolutely rubbish, taking cores out of your lawn is essential to a healthy lawn but definitely not with this!!

I only had my lawn laid last summer so knew exactly how much quality top soil was put down before the grass was laid so mistakingly thought I would be able to quickly get through the soil using this as the forks weren't longer than the depth of soil I'd had put in. However please be warned, just to break through the grass roots required jumping on the horizontal bar with my weight (184lbs) and even then it only sat in the roots requiring another big jump just to penetrate through. After just three or four separate holes are made you then have to spend time unblocking the prongs which is just mind numbing before you can even thing of carrying on otherwise it's like trying to stamp four bricks into your lawn.

I'm sorry Draper but please please don't buy this product, it's absolutely rubbish!

I ended up hiring a petrol aerator and split the cost with a few neighbours and it was a breeze, even a pleasure to do.

a good product for what it is. the aerator is required a lot of cleaning to get the turf to come through the tubes (it gets better as you use it) I found using a stick to poke the soil through the holes and then rinsing the mud out with water helped the turf the clear the holes a bit better but i am not sure that i would not have been better off using a fork in any case timing is crucial with this product i would not want to use this after a long dry spell.

I have just received my Draper lawn aerator and tried it on my lawns. The first few holes were OK with the plugs of soil pushing out of the top of the hollow tines, but once each tine blocked it refused to work again. I cleaned the holes thoroughly using a drill bit and a cloth but nothing made it work for more that a couple of holes. My soil is quite light and sandy, with no clay so shouldn't be a problem. Take my advice and save your money, do NOT buy this product! I resorted to using a garden fork and just lifted the turf very lightly, which has worked much better.

I am very disappointed with this product. It does not extract plugs of soil it just forces a hole into the grass. It is a very heavy tool but very difficult to push into the ground as it does not push up the plug through the tines. I would have sent it back but the postage cost would be almost the same as price paid. I have tried lubricating inside the tubes but no improvement. I think the ends of the tubes should be swaged down more and sharp edges to the ends of the tubes. I expected better from Draper.

Arrived very quickly, (considering size), well packed, no damage. However became tiresome in having to clean out the prongs every time! just won't self clean, maybe the cold damp weather did not help, will try later when the soil is dryer and warmer. ( but thought I had to use it in the spring?
