I bought this inspection lamp to replace my old one, which had a plastic reflector which had a habit of melting if left on for any length of time!
Like most Draper products, this is a no frills, solidly built, good quality product. It has a shiny metal reflector, which means it won't be damaged by the heat from the bulb, and it directs all the light to where it's needed. The lamp holder is porcelaine, which is also heat-resistant, but note that it's an Edison screw type-not a problem, as these bulbs are readily available, but possibly not quite as common around the house as the bayonet type, should a sudden replacement be needed! On the subject of bulb replacement, it's well worth investing in a Rough Service-type bulb, which is more resistant than ordinary bulbs to knocks and vibration, which are likely to happen in any DIY project.
The lamp has an on-off switch, which is useful to prevent overheating while not being used. I only have two minor niggles: The hinged cage doesn't fit very well over the rolled lug on the side of the reflector, which is a bit too long, so it never really feels as if the cage has closed properly. I was able to shave 5mm off the rolled section, and it now fits fine within the edge of the wire cage. The other problem is that the hook at the top of the light is loose and tends to fall down into the bulb space. I solved this problem by sliding a star-lock clip down to the base of the hook to keep it in place. These are minor problems, but I've knocked a star off the rating, as the manufacturer could have easily solved them.
The product is great value at £9.95, and it looks as if it should give many years of service.
