This unit comes with three sets of assembly instructions, for the visor, the ear defenders and the helmet. The fact that the three sets were stapled together in such a way that they couldn't be read without ripping them apart gives a clue as to the amount of thought put into the instructions. The assembly instructions themselves, particularly for the helmet, are appalling - without doubt the worst assembly instructions I have EVER encountered. I notice from other reviews that some people have just given up at assembly stage (I wish I had read those reviews before purchasing). I very nearly gave up. I got to the point where I raised a technical support query on the manufacturer's web-site. That was yesterday, but I have finally managed to work out how to put the thing together. Am I convinced that I have it 100% correct. No. Actually, I'm pretty sure I haven't got it right. However, it is useable for the purpose for which I bought the helmet, which is to provide protection whilst using shredders etc and I used it for that purpose yesterday and this morning. I will be interested to see what the response from the manufacturer is as I still think that either I have is slightly wrong or the fabric connecting the suspension keys is too short.
So, for the purpose for which I bought it, having gone through a lateral thinking exercise to put the thing together, this product is just about adequate for the one task I use it for. However, if I was worried about the risk of things falling on my head, I do not believe the product as I have put it together offers adequate protection. I wouldn't use it on a building site the way I have it put together. That may mean that I have put it together wrong (demonstrating just how appalling the instructions are), or there is a manufacturing issue with the suspension system. I will let you know if I do receive a clear response from technical support. Let's just say that before I put it together the way that I have, I asked somebody else to look at it. They couldn't work it out and gave up.
Why do I think that I may have put it together incorrectly, or that there may be a manufacturing problem. Quite simply, because the fabric joining the suspension keys only seems to reach across the helmet to the key immediately opposite (i.e. the mirror, not the diagonal). That isn't what I would have expected.
I am only giving this product one star because the instructions are so appalling that even now I do not know if I have put this together correctly, which for a piece of safety equipment is completely unsatisfactory. If I could, I would give this zero stars.
[Note added six weeks later... Needless to say, I never received a response to my technical support request. So, to summarise, rubbish instructions meaning that I do not believe that the product itself can be considered suitable as protective equipment - if you cannot work out how to put it together, it cannot be relied on to keep you safe. To top it off, no help from technical support even when asking a question about safety equipment. Avoid.]
[Note added the following year... Have just bought a new helmet, from a company called Oregon, which has Ear Muffs by Sordin, a mesh visor, and a rachet system for getting it to fit to you head easily. I am much, much happier with my new puchase, although I have to admit I got the company I bought it from to assemble it so I cannot comment on how good the instructions are on that one].
