4.0 out of 5 stars Read this before buying this excellent product 28 April 2011
This safety helmet is excellent value for money but is seriously let down by the assembly instructions. Read on and hopefully all will be good. It seems the biggest problem is the four clips on the straps that slot into the helmet. As a previous review said they do not fit in the "obvious" way round. Looking at the clips there is a white "fold" mark on the bit with the black strap in. Fold the clip there and the thicker section slides in the slot quite easily with the "fold" mark pointing downwards into the helmet. In effect it fits in totally opposite to what would appear the obvious way. You can also adjust the position of the clips on the band by using the other slots in the band to get the best fit for your head. Turn the clip thru 90* and ease out and opposite to refit. The ear defenders just clip straight into the slots in the helmet from the top of the helmet and the black visor strip holder just easily slots into the ear defenders. Last but not least there are peel off protectors on both sides of the visor which when removed give perfect clear vision. I assembled mine in about 15 minutes and am very pleased with it. I would have given it 5 stars but for the instructions. DRAPER DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value 13 Jan 2006

I use mine for my petrol strimmer, chain saw, angle grinder etc. The only reason I put this review in is to warn about how you clean the visor. Don't use anything mildly abrasive or you will leave scratches. I used a soft plastic brush and hazed the plastic and I now need to change same.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Space - chucked mine in the bin! 27 May 2009
Absolutely useless assembly instructions, very poor cheap plastic connections - Have thrown away without any use as could not connect the helmet to the suspension without them breaking.

Avoid at all costs

4.0 out of 5 stars Assembly is easy when you know how 9 Mar 2010

The instructions are useless. It took ages to work out but what you need to do is take each of the 4 plastic fittings and fold them over the band. There is a white crease line already in the plastic. The keys then easily slide into the slots. Also its not obvious that the visor band fits into the ear defenders.
Otherwise it seems pretty good. With the ear defenders in place it feels really secure 'though I suspect it may not be rugged enough for industrial use.
If you've ever been splattered with bits of frog while using a strimmer this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more steamed up goggles 15 Jun 2004
If you can't get on with normal safety goggles because they steam up this set up works well.I bought one set and was so pleased that i bought two more, the helmet is just an added bonus for me.I have been doing serious diy for years and would only wear goggles as a last resort. This is a great solution!

1.0 out of 5 stars Appalling assembly instructions. Almost gave up. 29 Aug 2009
By J. S. Hardman TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE

This unit comes with three sets of assembly instructions, for the visor, the ear defenders and the helmet. The fact that the three sets were stapled together in such a way that they couldn't be read without ripping them apart gives a clue as to the amount of thought put into the instructions. The assembly instructions themselves, particularly for the helmet, are appalling - without doubt the worst assembly instructions I have EVER encountered. I notice from other reviews that some people have just given up at assembly stage (I wish I had read those reviews before purchasing). I very nearly gave up. I got to the point where I raised a technical support query on the manufacturer's web-site. That was yesterday, but I have finally managed to work out how to put the thing together. Am I convinced that I have it 100% correct. No. Actually, I'm pretty sure I haven't got it right. However, it is useable for the purpose for which I bought the helmet, which is to provide protection whilst using shredders etc and I used it for that purpose yesterday and this morning. I will be interested to see what the response from the manufacturer is as I still think that either I have is slightly wrong or the fabric connecting the suspension keys is too short.

So, for the purpose for which I bought it, having gone through a lateral thinking exercise to put the thing together, this product is just about adequate for the one task I use it for. However, if I was worried about the risk of things falling on my head, I do not believe the product as I have put it together offers adequate protection. I wouldn't use it on a building site the way I have it put together.

2.0 out of 5 stars Helmet let down by poor internal fittings 7 Jun 2007
I bought this for visiting construction sites and was interested in the additional ear and eye protection. With the hinged back strap the helmet is better fitting and more comfortable than most, but within weeks both plastic cross members holding the back strap in place snapped off. Whilst this was remedied by physically stapling the two parts of the strap together, one of the lugs securing the harness into the helmet broke off last week rendering the helmet, and of cause its additional attachments, useless. This would be a good helmet if the quality of the interior plastic fittings were better.

As many say the instructions are terrible and misleading I nearly sent it back until I read one helpful review on how to assemble. Follow this and it is easy - as it should be. Do not force the items as they are there to protect and won't do if damaged.

When fitting the 4 lugs put the strap end in (not the seemingly obvious way and the way the diagram seems to show) if you do it the correct way they simply clip in with a secure 'snap'. The helmet then sits properly on your head.

The 'information' sheet on the visor does not provide assembly instructions - I used the picture on the box. What it also does not say is that there are two layers of protective film - one green and one clearish. If you fail to take these off then visibility is very poor.

When finally assembled this appears to be a good item but there is no excuse for the quality of the instructions for a safety item. Draper must do better, customers should not have to rely on Amazon reviews for correct assembly, just look at the long list of similar comments.

Update - I've now used this product many times and it excellent given the price. Only the instructions let it down but it is still performing well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Safety Helmet
Great - cuts out just enough noise to do the job but not be totally deaf; visor protects but not as sweaty as goggles. Helmet protected my head when cutting overhead branches.
