The title more or less sums it up. For its price, this is a damn near perfect piece of kit for casual use (or even cathartic, destructive fun) at home.

My only real criticism (and this is a really petty, minor one, not worthy of dropping a star) is that you need to hold the lid in place while turning the handle. Oh, woe is me for my hardships. Fortunately, the shredder drags the paper through really well anyway, so having to use two hands to shred paper isn't a problem; if you disagree, try manually tearing paper in half with one hand and you'll see how far human civilisation and technology has come...

I bought the Draper 69260 hand operated paper shredder as a Christmas present because I have owned one for several years and it has given faultless service, unlike the electric one that I owned previously which cost five times the price and jammed/died after just over a year. With 60gsm or thicker paper the Draper is really only good for one sheet at a time, and don't even think about trying to shred CDs or anything plastic, but it does what it says on the box perfectly well. Occasionally a small shred of paper gets caught round the mechanism in the top but this doesn't cause any problems. Once a year I undo the eight screws, take it all apart, clean it and re-assemble it and it continues to work well for another year. For light use this shredder does the job, and I can recommend it.

I have bought two of these. The first jammed when shredding a large-ish batch...after about 50 sheets we got impatient and started putting several sheets through together and it jammed. I took it apart to try to fix it without success. I am now using the second one for single sheets of A4 and receipts etc and it is fine!

The one irritating thing about this is the box that collects the shredded paper is so small. Apart from that it's a neat little toy.

I agree with the review that it is great for light use and is strictly for home use. It definitely will clog up with more the one sheet of paper or with a piece of card or a photograph. If you have hundreds of bits of paper to do then burn them in the garden or take them to work. If you feel resistance when shredding then stop and reverse as the mechanism is lightweight. If a staple has got stuck then use a fine pair of tweezers. There are a couple of very fiddly little cog wheels in the mechanism so it is best not to take it apart unless it is a last resort.

It is a nice buy for this price. I am giving a 4 star only because of its functionality of allowing 1 paper to shred at a time.

The positive side of it is, that the shredder is eco friendly and doesn't consume electricity.

An ideal shredder to use on a daily basis as your postal items &/or till receipts etc, are dealt with. My first one of these lasted for 5/6 years before the handle snapped. It would not be suitable to cope with large quantities of shredding.

I bought one of these a few years ago. Many of the earlier reviews have already highlighted the faults and weaknesses.

One sheet of paper at a time, otherwise the shredder will struggle or jam up. And crank it gently.

Odd strips of paper often get wound around the cutter wheels and need poking out with a wire or tweezers; very fiddly.

The "head" does tend to fly off as soon as you turn the crank. I gaffer-tape the head to the body; it helps, but you still have to steady the whole thing.

Scraps of paper find their way into the head and can be removed only by dismantling the head (8 metal screws, into plastic). With hindsight, better to just ignore these irritating scraps, as they don't actually interfere with the shredding. But if you can't resist it, beware - the cutting wheel rods can be tricky to reassemble. And the screws round out their holes eventually and either won't come out or won't go back tight, rendering the device unusable. Sadly, my old one has just reached this stage.

Now - for light home use, hand-powered, at a reasonable price - what are the alternatives? I'd be more than happy to pay a bit extra for a beefier version of this model but there doesn't seem to be one (Mr Draper, please note!). So, looks like I'll be getting the same one again.
