This is a decent sized oil sharpening stone, with a coarser side and a finer side, suitable for sharpening chisels and axes, but not really the thing for kitchen ware, as the stone leaves an oily, gritty residue which needs to be cleaned off afterwards and probably won't enhance the flavour of anything. It has two holes for fixing to a bench, although, for the purpose I bought it for (sharpening a hatchet) this was entirely unnecessary. You do need to oil it first. There doesn't seem to be a recommendation for oil in (limited) instructions, but 3-in-1 oil worked fine for me.
Good piece of kit, and a must if you take sharp tools seriously. Many are sold in unsharpened condition (chisels and hatchets, for example), and all should be carefully maintained if they are to retain their usefulness.
