Hand operated shears with 360 degrees handle action which allows horizontal (0 degrees) through to vertical (90 degrees) usage. The 140 mm blades are precision ground, heat treated and non-stick coated for smooth corrosion-free protection. Incorporates thumb lock on handle and blade tensioner. One blade is fixed to allow grass trimming close to walls.

I bought these shears because after a lifetime in engineering I had confidence in the design and quality of tools bearing the Draper name.
I was very disappointed to find that these shears have a basic design fault. The two cutting blades are connected by three pivots, one of which has an `interference fit' washer pressed on to its top rather than the metal screw it should be fitted with. After a few weeks' normal use the washer came off and was lost in the grass, which meant the blades were no longer held tightly together and the tool was useless.
My previous pair weren't a well-known brand and didn't cost much, but were used to keep the edges of two fairly large lawns with island beds clipped year in year out for over 15 years. I'd advise anyone looking to buy shears of this type to check that the blades are held together with screws.

Very pleased with the new shears. They are not so good on the thicker stuff, but 360 degree swivel makes them very versatile around the garden. Lightweight but sturdy and easy to use. Excellent value for money, would definitely recommend.

My German-made strimmer went bosch after about 10 sessions so I bought these and had an epiphany. No, an angel didn't come down and cut the lawn for me, I mean that I realised that I had spent 40 odd pounds, spending time setting the strimmer up every session struggling with the strimmer spool, as it repeatedly unravelled before finally flinging the whole spool attachment in a graceful arc across the garden and for what?
These are cheap (you can get cheaper) they're silent, safe, reliable and all you have to do is what most of us studiously try to avoid - get down and commune with your lawn. A few minutes crawling round and bingo! - back to nature.A lesson learned as far as I'm concerned. I would go back to an old fashioned non-electrical mower but I tried that and it's not the same. You can over-commune you know. A good buy. Goodbye.

Hmm not like the old days
Maybe I am getting old, and seriously I may be, but I swore that shears opened wider in the old days, with a more satisfying spring, half a can of WD40 has not improved things. Read more
