I'm not really into tape measures, however this one feels well made and is nice to hold (this is a gift for my'practical' other half!). My farther is quite a DIY enthusiast! and he became strangely excited by this tape measure he said - its a nice thick tape meaning if someone measures a long length it will stay straight and not flop over, it has numbers all the way along it rather than reverting to multiples of 10cm after 1m (apparently some tape measures do this and its caused problems), it has a metric and imperial side, and it has some markings which joiners use ... I have no idea what these markings are but apparently its involves measuring joists but the lengths of joists have changed (this conversation lasted a good half an hour and involved a lot of reasons why my dad liked the tape better than the ones he has and a fair few things i didn't really understand however i did becomes worried he may run off with it! but anyway the general vibe i got was 'this is a very good tape measure')

Sorry for the babble, to sum up my review, its a good buy. I've also recently found the same tape measure in TKMaxx but it was a little bit more expensive (about 50p more)

This tape is great for both the metric and imperial minded user. It shows mm, cm, inch, feet, metres and wooden flooring measurements unlike a Stanley one my son purchased to replace one that had broken. That only showed basic metric measurements and was more expensive! This Draper one was just what I wanted. Only downside from a female point of view is that big hands strong hands would be an advantage, as i find it a bit large and heavy to handle. Designed for a guy i guess. Otherwise I'm a happy customer.

Even if I say so myself I'm not all that bad at DIY related things. I'll have a crack at anything. But there's one thing I've yet to master - measuring. I need to cut wood; I measure how much I need. I write it down, I go and cut it. Bring the wood back, place it in the spot it's needed and as if by magic the space needed has grown by a few mm. Or sometimes it shrinks. Never is it the same. This applies to tiles, wood, flooring - whatever. It's actually very frustrating. I have a sneaky feeling I know the reasons for this, but I still can't get the correct measure.
So - to the tape measure. It's made of metal and I reckon it's well made. But be careful you don't cut your fingers when you `wind it in'. That hurts. The curve of the `tape' means it's tricky to get everything accurate.
It measures, but the end bit (which is the same for most tape measures), moves a couple of mm which pushes your (un)accurate measure out even further. If you need an accurate measure use a metal rule. But having said that it won't stop whatever your measuring magically growing by the time you've cut whatever you need to cut.

Sturdy 25mm wide blade, clear markings, bright colour means it's easy to find. Locking mechanism works well, as does the rewind. I think it's great!

My husband is absolutely thrilled with this, at 65 he is a feet and inches man and had recently left his old and trusty tape measure at a builders yard (not handed in, so very handy these metric and imperial tape measures!!). But he prefers and loves this one as it also has the soft grip for comfort. It was a bargain price too, in fact I almost ordered 2 in case he loses another one!!

This has fast become the go-to measuring tape in our multigenerational house, there have been tiffs about where and who has taken the precious- my dad especially loves this one over his own collection.

Why do we love it?
It's chunky enough to grip well and the rubberised outside means it doesn't slip in your hands,
The lock and rewind mechanism is strong and controlled plus the tape itself is strong and is tense enough not to whip about madly like a striking cobra if recoiled from a long measure,
It's not exactly handbag sized (ie to keep in bag for measuring spontaneously- furniture/ art etc), but it wouldn't be too offensive to carry if you were making a deliberate trip (ie to auctioneers or ikea)

I would happily buy another to keep the peace and if they do a baby sized one for my handbag I would be over the moon!

A sturdy solid product. Good quality for the price. The tape is auto-retractable. Be careful not to get your fingers in the way because it retracts very fast and will cut.
