4.0 out of 5 stars Agents Of Mercy - No Sophmore Slump Here 14 Feb 2012

This is Agents of Mercy's 2nd album and to my ears it is a big improvement over the first one. The band's debut had to grow on me over time, but this one clicked with me pretty much right off the bat. Overall the songwriting here is generally better, and the band seems to be more cohesive in general. Nad Syavin's voice is still quite unique. It took me a while to get used to it on the first disc, but now being familiar with his vocal style I have really grown to enjoy what he does. The musicians in this band are all stellar, but Roine Stolt and Jonas Reingold take a bit more of a backseat here than with their Flower Kings and Karmakanic projects. Their work here is more subtle, but no less impressive. Keyboardist Lalle Larsson has some fine moments on this disc, especially the ripping solo he pulls off on the track "Journey". To my ears he ranks right up there with the all time great prog keyboardists. Overall it is nice to see this band continue to develop and I would think that most fans of classic progressive rock would enjoy this.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it.. 22 Nov 2012

This album can be difficult to find at a reasonable price, but it is worth it. There is more going on here than meets the eye. The music reveals itself in stages, serving the lyrics, telling a story without being redundant or repetitive. A modern classic.
