Product Description

Product Description

This is a book that looks at how drama has its basis in good early years practice. Most early years practitioners are doing some drama and are edging towards more structured work - this text will help them go further by building their own skills.
Using tried and tested example dramas based on traditional stories, the authors show how clearly dramas are constructed. They move from the simple use if TiR (Teacher in Role) to more complex, full dramas, using traditional stories including Little Bo Peep, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Humpty Dumpty, The Pied Piper, The Billy Goats Gruff and Hansel and Gretel.
Drama in the early years covers a number of key areas where drama is of particular importance for this age group including:
* drama in the National Curriculum
* how drama can help your teaching of the Literacy Hour
* personal and social education and citizenship
* drama and special needs
* assessment
* recording and progression
* developing a school policy for drama.

It is very difficult to find good quality books focussing upon using drama with young children. This book certainly addresses that void. It gives step by step lesson plans with relevant national curriculum referencing and it is so obvious that the lessons have been tried and tested. There are also interesting chapters explaining the thinking behind the practice with good examples which all teachers will recognise. I have used many of the lesson ideas from this book with great success at the Foundation Stage and at both Key Stages 1 and 2. I have also recommended it wholeheartedly to colleagues who render nothing but praise. This is a book written by teachers for teachers and, consequently, a very useful resource.

I thought this was an excellent resource for both experienced and inexperienced drama teachers. It is hard to find materials for the youngest children so this was a delight to recieve. The ideas are clear and structured and very easy to follow. The ideas are also easy to adapt and develop to suit the specific needs of a class.

I lost this book and rebught it because it is that inspirational. It has all the lesson planned out and the children really enjoy it and immediately are engaged in it.
