Book Description

19 Jan 2012 Drama Games
A follow up to the highly successful Drama Games for Classrooms and Workshops. Jessica Swales provides invaluable insight and experience in a series of exercises and games designed to free up creativity and release the imagination.

After the success of the first book in NHB's new Drama Games series, Jessica Swale returns with another dip-in, flick-through, quick-fire resource book, packed with dozens of lively drama games that can be used in the process of devising and creating theatre. The games are aimed at school, youth theatre and community groups but also for directors and theatre companies at all levels who are creating new pieces of theatre from scratch and need lively, dynamic games to get the creative juices flowing.

Written with clear instructions on How to Play and notes on the Aim of the Game, the games cover every aspect of the devising process: creating characters and scenarios, using stimuli, improvising dialogue, structuring the piece, and creating an ensemble.

With a foreword by Mike Leigh.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good ideas for warm-ups 8 Feb 2013

Although this book duplicates games in other books that I have, it sets out the games well, understanding useful headings and explains how to carry them out clearly.

I love the drama books in this series. As a veteran drama teacher I'm always looking for new ideas and new games to teach skills. These are filled with many new games that aren't the same tired games that have been around for 50 years.
