Product Description

The highly acclaimed PC-RPG The Dark Eye: Drakensang was awarded "best German game" and "best German RPG" amongst many others. Drakensang: The River of Time features all-new adventures in the medieval world of Aventuria, based on one of Europe's favourite RPG systems: The Dark Eye. The prequel's story of Drakensang: The River of Time leads players to events that took place 23 years before the original Drakensang game's events. As a young apprentice, players meet the young dwarf Forgrimm and many other recognisable characters. Nadoret is in the south of Ferdok at the big river. In addition to the well known archetypes you will find two new classes of heroes: The Geodes (rare Aventurian druids of the dwarfs) and the Gjalskerland inhabitants (tenacious and hard barbarians). Another innovation is the so called miracle: Sanctified of the twelve Aventurian gods can send for divine intervention.

Fun:
Excellent game. Made by developers who actually listened to the people who played the 1st game and made the effort to play on their strengths and learn from their mistakes.
There's plenty to do in this game. The graphics are pleasant and well presented without being overwhelming. Unlike other party based 3D RPG's out just now there are no repeat, recycled areas.
Magic in this games system is a much more balanced affair, though still powerful. Your character can dabble in various skills and spells, creating a different build each time you play, or just use the pre-generated templates.
This is a traditional fantasy world, but with it's own twists, quirks and scheming evil doers to defeat.
Anyone who's felt let down by other recent, flashier and low on content RPG's should check this out. It would appeal to anyone who's played pen and paper RPG's too. In fact anyone who just enjoys a good fantasy story should give this a go.
The only issues I've seen anyone take much issue with is the AI making enemies attack the weakest characters (you do so shouldn't they? Just improve your defences or check the forums) and the fact you can't block an entry way (but given what the flashier RPG's and console gaming trends have done to the genre I'll easily overlook that one).
Get this game! You owe it to yourself and it's a bargain.

Fun:
I give this game maximum rating as it is very hard to find RPG with a balanced and tactical party based combat these days, and this Drakensang prequel is best in some time. It is not perfect - well, only Baldur's Gate ever was - but highly enjoyable. You actually have to think when and how to engage enemies, and use your party wisely. I find it a grand pity that there has been practically zero publicity for this title, and I really learned about it by pure chance.

If you liked the first game, you will probably love this one, as the noticeable faults of the first one have been fixed, like:

- the camera angle is not horrendous
- there is less casual, low level monsters to kill, but battles are further apart and of greater interest, and quite a lot of fun
- fast travel points in the map
- the areas explored are not automatically off limits
- often multiple paths to resolve quests depending which party member advice you follow, with different rewards and at times, consequences

There are quite a few skills to invest in, so it is important to look for a balance of skills within the group, and I really like the skill system and crafting, and the engine.

The game runs very smoothly with no glitches and story while typical is enjoyable. Don't let the lack of marketing let this fun and well crafted title slip past your fingers - it is much better than the first title if you played Drakensang before, and certainly worth a try if you did not!

An enjoyable RPG 16 May 2011
Fun:
This is a party based RPG which is a prequal to the original Drakensang game.
The first thing you notice is how good it looks, the graphics are perfect.
Party controls are a little hard to get used to at first but after a while of practicing there are no more problems.
The story is interesting but you will find that some decisions you make have far reaching concequences to the party members you let live and which ones die.
The games engine is smooth with no crashes in all the hours I have been playing it.
I would definitly recomend this to any who like game such as Dragon Age etc.
One piece of advice invest heavily in upgrading your willpower as this determins if you get injured during battle and you will soon find that without doing this you will be killed nealy every time.
I hope this was of help and that you enoy the game as much as I did.
