3D RPG heaven. This game comes from the same mould as Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Black Crypt, Lands of Lore, Dungeon Siege and the Neverwinter series and carries the torch with pride. Eye-candy graphics run like silk. Movement is right mouse and WASD keys with the zoom controlled by the mousewheel smoothly between third person and top down. Spell and weapon changes are quick and easy by assigning the favourite skills of your characters to task bar slots then simply selecting F1 to F4 for the heroes followed by 1 thro' 0 for the skill in near real time fights or hit the space bar to freeze the action and assign the actions in your own time. There are 12 pre-set main character types consisting of the usual fighters, tanks, thieves, mages etc., or assign your own stats. There are also heaps of skills and traits to acquire and develop which can seem a little overwhelming at first but once you get to know your team, you soon know exactly where to apply those points. Because the game has been ported from a very popular pen and paper game which has been around in Germany for many years, the rule set is very advanced and works really well. If you like RPGs where you control a small group of adventurers similar to those I mentioned earlier, then you will enjoy this 'dungeon romp'. There are shed loads of quests and just the occasional long diatribe from some of the in-game characters but this adds to the great storyline and ambiance. The developers haven't always made the aggro a walk in the park and there are times when you have to walk away, lick your wounds and plan a new approach but when you go back and succeed, it totally rocks.
