The feared female lancers of Ferdok and Ferdok's famous beer have given the city a reputation throughout the continent and the humans here live in harmony with the dwarves. But despite the cheerful and peaceful atmosphere, the peace is now being shaken by a mysterious series of murders. Sinister figures are pursuing their dark schemes, while the fear among the population grows with every new murder. Drakensang 9 Mar 2009

Fun:
3D RPG heaven. This game comes from the same mould as Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Black Crypt, Lands of Lore, Dungeon Siege and the Neverwinter series and carries the torch with pride. Eye-candy graphics run like silk. Movement is right mouse and WASD keys with the zoom controlled by the mousewheel smoothly between third person and top down. Spell and weapon changes are quick and easy by assigning the favourite skills of your characters to task bar slots then simply selecting F1 to F4 for the heroes followed by 1 thro' 0 for the skill in near real time fights or hit the space bar to freeze the action and assign the actions in your own time. There are 12 pre-set main character types consisting of the usual fighters, tanks, thieves, mages etc., or assign your own stats. There are also heaps of skills and traits to acquire and develop which can seem a little overwhelming at first but once you get to know your team, you soon know exactly where to apply those points. Because the game has been ported from a very popular pen and paper game which has been around in Germany for many years, the rule set is very advanced and works really well. If you like RPGs where you control a small group of adventurers similar to those I mentioned earlier, then you will enjoy this 'dungeon romp'. There are shed loads of quests and just the occasional long diatribe from some of the in-game characters but this adds to the great storyline and ambiance. The developers haven't always made the aggro a walk in the park and there are times when you have to walk away, lick your wounds and plan a new approach but when you go back and succeed, it totally rocks.

Old school perfection 29 Jun 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun:
I was sceptical at first beacuse of some of the average reviews. But this is an old-school masterpiece! The best cRPG since the icewind/ baldur series. No question about it. It might not appeal to console gamers who want instant arcade satisfaction as exemplified by Oblivion or Fallout, but if you like party management in a lord of the rings type setting and lush fantasy backdrops, you won't be disappointed. Great graphics, excellent sound, bug and patch free, and a romping good quest with plenty of side quests for great items. Sure, it's cliched, but it is really fun and great gameplay with humour and a variety of exciting quests. The combat is pause, order and play perfection, not sure what others are complaining about. Don't miss out on this - I nearly did and am SO So glad I took the chance!

Nice old-school CRPG 31 May 2010
Fun:
Things I liked:

- old-school feel
- lots of points, levels and talent checks
- crafting system and alchemy
- graphics and voice acting
- slightly tongue-in-cheek characters
- game is more cheerful than recent RPGs
- nice, no-frills "heroic fantasy" story

Things I did not like:

- how camera works
- characters get stuck on physical obstacles a bit too often
- music, however nice, is a bit too cliche
- locking of less-important locations (yes! you can only visit them once)
- little interaction between NPCs in your team

Overall, I think the game is worth buying and playing, it gave me already many hours of fun and I expect more to follow.

A real RPG, not a 'hack and slash'
As stated in the title, this is not an 'action RPG' and some thought is required to succeed in this game.

It is a German game, based on a german version of DnD rules. Read more
